Thai Runner Breaks Asian Games 200m Record
Thai sprinter Buriripol Bunsorn shattered the Asian Games 200m record with a time of 20.10 seconds, adding to his earlier 100m gold medal at the games.
Running in heat 3 of the 200m semi-finals, Buriripol Bunsorn dominated the field to win in 20.10 seconds, breaking the Asian Games record previously held by Nigeria's Femi Ogunode from 2014. In the morning qualification round on September 26, the 20-year-old clocked 20.97 seconds to advance to the semi-finals. The Thai sprinter's breakthrough comes after he also set a new Asian Games 100m record of 9.90 seconds in the final, capturing Thailand's first men's 100m gold medal in 48 years. His teammate Ott Tawatchai Himueaid finished third in heat 2 of the semi-finals with a time of 20.97 seconds.
