A Thai Olympic shooter's mother alleges the Shooting Association unfairly excluded her son from Asian Games selection by changing qualification criteria after he finished second in trials.

Thai Shooter's Mother Alleges Unfair Asian Games Selection
2d ago Khaosod

Captain Isaranudom Phuriharanphat's mother filed a formal complaint with Sports Minister Surasak Phandcharoenvorakul on July 13, alleging that the Thai Shooting Association deliberately excluded her son from the Asian Games despite his qualification. She stated that in the selection competition, her son finished second and should have been selected under existing rules allowing two athletes, but the association changed the criteria to a point-based system after learning of his qualification. The mother said her complaint to the Thailand Sports Authority was not properly addressed.

Sports Minister Surasak acknowledged that multiple sports associations face similar complaints and pledged fair treatment for all parties. He instructed the Thailand Sports Authority to investigate and ensure that athletes meeting selection standards should be allowed to compete. The mother revealed she has spent approximately 10 million baht supporting her son's training, including selling two houses and keeping only one of four vehicles.

Isaranudom Phuriharanphat is a 22-year-old shooting athlete who became Thailand's youngest-ever Olympic competitor when he participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics at age 15 in the 25-meter rapid-fire pistol men's event.

Nakhon Si Thammarat is preparing to welcome UNESCO World Heritage status for Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahaviharn, which would be Thailand's sixth cultural World Heritage site. On July 13, 2025, Thiwali Angkhinan, chair of the parliamentary committee on religion, art, and culture, visited Nakhon Si Thammarat to oversee management planning for the heritage site following its UNESCO nomination.

The meeting brought together provincial officials, senior monks, and government representatives to discuss systematic site management, including tourist access points, souvenir retail, visitor centers, guided tours, traffic control, parking, signage, waste management, public facilities, and revenue systems for future international visitors.

The committee also received presentations on the temple's 1,000-year Buddhist history, artistic and architectural significance, and cultural value to southern Thailand. Thiwali expressed pride that if UNESCO approves the nomination, Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahaviharn would become the first cultural World Heritage site in southern Thailand and the sixth nationwide. She emphasized that the recognition would showcase the site's historical, artistic, and architectural value to the world while requiring balanced management between conservation and development through cooperation from all stakeholders—the temple, local government, the Fine Arts Department, schools, and communities. Thiwali affirmed confidence that Nakhon Si Thammarat residents could become a model for preserving Thailand's World Heritage sites while promoting cultural tourism and passing the legacy to future generations.

The Public Affairs Office of the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defense and the Thai Volunteer Defense Foundation have continued supporting border-guard soldiers by distributing compensation and assistance. On July 13, 2026, Maj. Gen. Thanathip Sawangsaeng, director of the Public Affairs Office, and members of the Thai Volunteer Defense Foundation visited Special Warfare Command headquarters in Lopburi province to meet with Maj. Gen. Adul Chanma, commander of the Special Warfare Command, to discuss support strategies for military personnel executing national security missions.

The foundation distributed 40,000 baht in aid to four families of soldiers killed in border disputes (10,000 baht per family), presented four Hatari Cyclone Max fans, and distributed 500 bread rolls to children of deceased service members attending the event, offering encouragement to grieving families.

Previously, the Public Affairs Office partnered with the Thai Volunteer Defense Foundation and the Ashvin Foundation to donate medical equipment to Phra Mongkut Klao Hospital for treating soldiers wounded in Thailand-Cambodia border clashes. The two foundations together donated two ventilators worth 900,000 baht to enhance the military medical unit's critical care capacity. Boyfriend Speaks Out After Girlfriend Severely Burned in Bar Fire

A man's girlfriend suffered severe burns escaping a Ladprao bar fire on July 13, with her boyfriend now seeking emergency assistance as she remains in critical condition with no health insurance coverage beyond 72 hours.

Boyfriend Speaks Out After Girlfriend Severely Burned in Bar Fire
2d ago Khaosod

On July 13, 2025, at Phaholyothin Police Station, Pisanu Nimmian, 31, came to file a daily report regarding his girlfriend Tatsanai, 31, who suffered severe burns in a fire at a beer bar in Ladprao. Before the incident, his girlfriend had arranged to meet friends from her clinic workplace at the bar and invited him along, but he chose to stay home caring for their two children. He drove her to the bar around 9 p.m., intending to pick her up later. On his way back, his car tire blew out near the Ladprao intersection, so he called a mechanic to change it. While waiting, his child asked where their mother was, and he told them he would go pick her up soon. Later, he received a call asking if he was Tatsanai's boyfriend and informing him that his girlfriend's phone was missing and asking him to come to the scene. When told she had been caught in a fire, he rushed there immediately. Upon arrival, he saw flames and thick black smoke. His girlfriend ran out of the bar with her head on fire, and people helped beat out the flames before she collapsed in front of the establishment. Pisanu explained that his girlfriend was familiar with the venue and knew which way to escape, but the exit was very small, forcing her to run through the flames. When she spoke to him at the hospital, she tearfully asked him if she would still be beautiful, and he assured her that he would accept her completely and only wanted her to come home safely with their children, saying belongings didn't matter as long as she was safe. He later told her that entertainment venues should have more emergency exits with clear signage, noting that both the entrance and exit were dangerously small. Regarding reports that fire exit doors were locked to prevent customers from leaving without paying, he said if true, it would be inexcusable to prioritize payment over people's lives and safety. He expressed concern about not knowing which agency to contact for assistance, as his girlfriend has no social security insurance and is currently using emergency medical coverage limited to 72 hours. He worried about what would happen if her condition did not improve by then, as doctors say she remains in critical condition with burns covering her arms, legs, face, and back. Her hair was burned off during her escape and doctors needed to shave her head and treat the wounds. Visits are restricted due to infection risk. Their two children keep asking for their mother, and he can only tell them she is still working and that he will pick her up soon. On the previous night, Pisanu met with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt to request assistance and filed a complaint at the police station.

Thailand's Unified Special Olympics women's football team made history at the 2026 Special Olympics Unified Football World Cup in Paris by advancing to the bronze medal match in Division 1 and defeating Slovakia on penalty kicks after a 4-4 draw in regular time.

Beyond winning third place globally, the Thai women's team received two additional honors: the Unified Team of the Tournament award and the Coach of the Tournament award.

The Special Olympics Unified Football competition gives athletes with intellectual disabilities, called "Special Athletes," the opportunity to compete alongside players without disabilities, known as "Unified Partners," on the same team. This showcases the potential of some of society's most vulnerable individuals with intellectual disabilities and reflects equal cooperation both on and off the field.

The historic Thai women's 7-a-side squad consisted of: Captain Yatika Wachwong (Special Athlete), athletes Gwelin Tammanimu, Piyamad Huayjai, Sirivimol Saetao, Saiyathorn Tinna, goalkeeper Ekjittra Kongtako (all Special Athletes), and Unified Partners Thidatip Panaew, Nattathida Somchat, Nophkao Pornpipat, and Saowphak Naksanit. The coaching staff included Head Coach Chawni Phanlertsai, Coach Kanya Sahari, team physician Dr. Phetai Sophalasilp, team leader Suchuchai Angkabkaew, and Director Dr. Rittirong Intrajinda.

The Unified Football World Cup, held every two years by Special Olympics International, provides opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to develop and demonstrate their abilities while promoting acceptance and social inclusion.

The Thai women's team achieved several historic milestones: it was the only women's football team from the Asia-Pacific region participating, it was the team's first World Cup appearance, and it became one of only three best Unified women's football teams in the world. Additionally, Thailand was the only country to receive two special awards: the Unified Team of the Tournament, recognizing player unity both on and off the field, and the Coach of the Tournament, recognizing the coach's leadership and inspiration.

TTB Launches Debt Coach Program with Risk-Based Loan Pricing

TTB launched a debt coach program pairing salaried workers with trained volunteers to help them restructure debt and build financial discipline, while introducing risk-based loan pricing that rewards borrowers with strong credit records.

TTB Launches Debt Coach Program with Risk-Based Loan Pricing
2d ago Khaosod

TTB is stepping up its comprehensive support for salaried workers, rolling out a debt resolution model that directly addresses financial problems and introducing a "debt coaching" program to strengthen financial knowledge and discipline among borrowers. The bank is also advancing risk-based pricing—setting loan interest rates based on borrower risk levels—to reward those with good repayment records and creditworthiness, and incentivize financially disciplined customers.

On July 13, TTB's Chief Executive Officer Thakorn Piyanphand said household debt remains a critical challenge affecting the quality of life and potential of Thailand's salaried workers, who form an important economic engine of approximately 12.5 million people, or roughly 30% of the total labor market. Main causes include family care responsibilities, rising living costs, economic conditions, and unexpected events that impact financial status.

TTB believes sustainable debt solutions require more than burden reduction; they must help borrowers regain financial discipline and manage their finances independently over the long term. The bank has therefore begun developing comprehensive support solutions, especially for salaried workers, through a debt resolution model combining debt restructuring with behavior change.

Debt Coach Program: Volunteers Helping People Escape Debt

The "debt coach" program was first piloted with TTB employees, starting with financial health checks through the ttb financial health check tool to assess risk and analyze individual financial behavior, then design tailored support aligned with each group's debt level.

From the green group—those with strong financial status—to the yellow group showing early warning signs, the orange group facing debt burden and negative liquidity, and the red group in financial crisis unable to repay regularly. Support is targeted and designed to create sustainable results.

TTB has since expanded the program to partner organizations, with over 144,000 salaried employees now assessed. Results show average financial health is good, with 53% in the green group, only 3% in critical red status, 31% in the early-warning yellow group, and 13% in the serious orange group.

Sustainable debt solutions require financial advisors. TTB created the "debt coach" role—volunteers from among TTB employees with financial knowledge and good financial health (green group status). All coaches undergo screening, knowledge tests, and intensive training to ensure standardized advisory quality.

Currently over 110 debt coaches have advised more than 560 employees, improving participants' liquidity. A survey found 56% restored positive net cash flow within one year of receiving coach guidance. The bank aims to expand to 1,000 cases this year and scale the model across partner networks.

Risk-Based Pricing: Rewarding Those Who Pay Well and Have Good Credit

Meanwhile, TTB promotes financial discipline among Thai people. Early 2024, TTB broke new ground using risk-based pricing to set loan interest rates that match borrower risk levels and credit scores from credit rating companies.

Woman Dies in Beer Bar Fire Days After Birthday

On July 13, at a house in Thung Sanuun Sub-District, Bung Samakkhi District, Kamphaeng Phet Province, relatives gathered in a somber atmosphere to prepare for receiving the body of Kanokthip Srisuk, 31, a beauty salon employee who died in a fire at a beer bar in Ladprao on the night of July 12. A merit-making ceremony is being held at her hometown. Her mother, Chamriang Guantong, 56, who sells papaya salad from a push cart near Thung Sanuun Rattanarom Temple, traveled to Bangkok to retrieve her daughter's body and bring it home for the ritual. The family expects the body to arrive by this evening. According to the victim's Facebook posts made shortly before the incident, she was sitting and drinking with five friends inside the beer bar. Her boyfriend reported they had a quarrel, after which she left with her friends. Around 2 a.m., concerned that she had not returned, he tried contacting her through various means until a foundation finally informed him of her death. The victim had only recently returned to visit home a few months ago and had celebrated her 31st birthday on July 6. Her aunt expressed shock, noting that Aom was a cheerful person who had recently started working at a beauty salon in Bangkok. The family's primary concern is whether the entertainment venue had insurance to cover the victim or its patrons, as they are a poor household with limited means. The family believes she died in the fire, as her body was found inside. Given that the back door was closed, many people may have been trapped and unable to escape.

Thailand Links Financial Data to Combat International Scams

Thailand's finance ministry is linking financial data from the central bank, securities regulator, and anti-money laundering agency to combat cross-border scams and close capital market loopholes.

Thailand Links Financial Data to Combat International Scams
2d ago Khaosod

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanpong revealed that the Connect the Dots working committee is tracking progress on a financial data-sharing system among relevant agencies to improve efficiency in handling transactions, money laundering, and underground money flows, while strengthening prevention against new financial crimes, particularly international scammer networks.

The committee will link agency data to enable efficient tracking, analysis, and use of financial information through cooperation among the Finance Ministry, Bank of Thailand (BOT), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to reduce regulatory gaps in the financial system.

"Originally we considered creating a Data Hub, but now we think a Data Exchange system—which establishes data-sharing protocols between agencies—may be faster and allow real-time financial data connectivity," Ekniti said.

The Finance Ministry prioritizes transparency and confidence in Thailand's capital market and will accelerate checks and repairs of system weaknesses to reassure investors and the public. The ministry will also investigate the Supapon Pimpongse case in detail with the SEC secretary, who attended the meeting, following Supapon's involvement in securities trading data for True Corporation worth over 300 million baht filed via SEC Form 246-2.

Ekniti stated that investigating this issue is crucial for building confidence in Thailand's capital market, which the Finance Ministry regards highly in advancing transparency and governance in the stock market system. The ministry has directed relevant agencies to urgently close any regulatory loopholes.

Additionally, the committee will discuss tax approaches for specific businesses, particularly tax collection on gold trading, which is under study and impact assessment.

Anne Book Clarifies Property Sale, Praises Gifted Son's Startup Plans

Anne Book clarified she's selling a retirement community property to help a friend in financial need, not due to personal hardship, while praising her 16-year-old son's ambitious startup plans in economics and finance.

Anne Book Clarifies Property Sale, Praises Gifted Son's Startup Plans
2d ago Khaosod

Anne Book has clarified her announcement to sell a property, expressing pride in her 16-year-old son Teekhaya, who is launching a startup with interests in economics and finance after competing in international competitions. She emphasized that she is not protective about her son's romantic life because she raised him to be a gentleman, though he currently has no girlfriend. She also revealed that her son has told her his ideal partner should be 80% as good as his mother.

When asked why many people were surprised by the property sale, Anne Book explained: "It's nothing really. I invested in this property together with a friend, and we planned to build a small retirement community with individual plots of 50-100 square meters each where we could all live together when we retire without bothering our children. It just happened that my friend needed money urgently, so I agreed to sell it for now and rebuild later. It's a house we built together, not just mine alone."

Regarding speculation that she was facing financial problems, Anne Book responded: "People can think whatever they want, but thank you for asking. The truth is my friend needed the money urgently. I said okay, but we also need money—everyone does." She confirmed that the sale price of 2.59 million baht, down from 2.99 million baht, meant she was essentially breaking even on the investment. She added that she was not discouraged by the loss because she previously worked as a real estate agent in Nakhon Nayok and knows how to find affordable land. She said she could save up and rebuild in the future since everyone's needs are different. She also mentioned that although she announced the sale, it has not sold yet because potential buyers felt 100 square meters might be too small, even though the property actually has three bedrooms.
