Thai Woman Reports Police Inaction After Armed Myanmar Men Invade Home
A Kanchanaburi woman reported that police refused to file a complaint after armed Myanmar nationals invaded her home and threatened her family in apparent retaliation for a report about their food stall.
On July 21, Ms. Buangam, 42, visited Kanchanaburi provincial police officials to lodge a complaint after being allegedly attacked by a group of Myanmar nationals. She reported that on July 19 around 8 p.m., approximately 10 armed Myanmar men broke into her home in Mueang District and threatened to kill her entire family, claiming she had reported their nearby food stall to authorities. When she called police, they initially responded but the suspects fled. Later, another group of six Myanmar men in a pickup truck arrived and shouted threats at her family, but when she tried to file a formal complaint, the local police sergeant refused to take action or review the video evidence she had recorded.
Frustrated by the police's inaction, Ms. Buangam escalated the matter to the provincial police commander, demanding an investigation into both the home invasion and the officers' apparent negligence. She expressed that the incident had caused severe fear and distress to her and her family.
