Thailand Launches Discounted Egg Sales Program Nationwide
Thailand's Department of Internal Trade is launching a nationwide discounted egg sales program from August 13–31, offering 3.42 million eggs at roughly 10% below market rates to ease consumer costs amid declining production levels.
The Department of Internal Trade is preparing to open sales points for Thai Helping Thai eggs nationwide from August 13–31, 2025, targeting distribution of 3.42 million eggs at prices roughly 10% below market rates to provide more options and help reduce the cost of living for consumers. The department confirmed that eggs remain adequately supplied despite current production declining from normal levels.
Witthayakorn Maniinit, director-general of the Department of Internal Trade, revealed that the egg farmers' cooperative raised farmgate prices from 3.80 baht to 4.00 baht per egg—an increase of 20 satang per egg—effective August 7, 2025. In response, the Department of Internal Trade has coordinated with provincial commerce offices nationwide to set up Thai Helping Thai egg sales points in their areas from August 13–31, 2025.
In the provinces, commerce offices will distribute the discounted eggs through 76 designated sales points covering all provinces, while Bangkok will sell through community flag markets. Eggs will be sold at prices roughly 10% below market rates, with a nationwide target distribution of 3.42 million eggs to help reduce expenses and give citizens more purchasing options. In addition to discounted eggs, flag markets also offer essential consumer goods such as rice, cooking oil, and other necessities at reduced prices.
Witthayakorn noted that the current egg situation reflects lower production volumes compared to normal levels, but does not constitute a supply shortage. August 2025 data shows approximately 53.85 million laying hens, with projected daily egg production of around 43.35 million eggs—roughly 3% below the standard level. This has reduced egg supply in the system below normal periods and affected current price levels.
"Eggs remain adequate for consumption, though production volumes are lower than normal," Witthayakorn said. "The department is therefore adding Thai Helping Thai egg sales channels to assist citizens during this period of rising prices, while continuously monitoring supply and pricing across all trading levels."
The Department of Internal Trade has also coordinated with the Department of Livestock to discuss ways to increase egg volumes entering the system and will continue monitoring production and sales situations to ensure adequate supply and align prices at each trading level with production costs and market conditions.
However, if any traders are found charging excessively high prices, complaints can be filed with the Department of Internal Trade hotline 1569. Violations will be prosecuted under Section 29 of the Price of Goods and Services Act, B.E. 2542, with penalties of up to 140,000 baht in fines, imprisonment not exceeding 7 years, or both.
