Thailand Plans Fresh Economic Stimulus for Final Quarter
Thailand's government plans to announce a fresh stimulus package for the final quarter to bolster economic performance amid rising global interest rates and following an extension of its existing aid program.
At a government house briefing on September 18, Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Suthammaphand discussed measures to protect domestic trade and goods following the Federal Reserve's 0.25 percent interest rate hike, the first in three years. He said the Commerce Ministry is monitoring commodity prices, while interest rate oversight falls under Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Niti Thadchapreap.
When asked if additional stimulus measures would follow the two-month extension of the Thailand Helping Thais Plus program, Supachai confirmed that discussions are underway. She indicated the Ministry of Economy will unveil a stimulus package designed to support economic performance in the final quarter of 2025. Finance Minister Ekniti separately announced the two-month extension, so the stimulus initiative must ensure coverage across all relevant ministries.
