Thailand Rugby Sevens Teams Ready for Asian Games 2026

Thailand's rugby sevens teams preparing for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026 have completed their pre-competition arrangements, with the women's team recently returning from a training camp in New Zealand.

Deputy Police General Kulthon Pratchumphon, president of the Thailand Rugby Football Association under royal patronage, held a royal jersey presentation ceremony featuring portraits of the Thai monarchs to inspire both the men's and women's national teams. The jerseys, bearing royal insignia, were presented to boost morale before the athletes depart for the Asian Games competition.

Kulthon stated that receiving royal jerseys is a tradition held each time national athletes compete for Thailand, comparing them to soldiers going to battle for their nation. "Receiving the royal jersey inspires our athletes and brings blessing to their lives," he said.

For the women's team, the goal is to win a medal while playing with enjoyment and full capability, similar to their New Zealand training camp where they competed against the world-class Black Ferns. The men's team is expected to follow their training patterns and perform their best in every match.

In the men's competition, 12 teams are divided into three groups: Group A features Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, and Uzbekistan; Group B includes Japan, Thailand, South Korea, and Kazakhstan; Group C consists of Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, and the Philippines. The women's competition has eight teams in two groups, with Thailand placed in Group A alongside Japan, Kazakhstan, and Singapore.
