Thailand's IP Office Launches SME Matchmaking Program Worth 48 Million Baht
Thailand's Department of Intellectual Property launched a matchmaking program that helped over 300 SMEs file IP protection applications and generated 48 million baht in business transactions across six economic zones.
The Department of Intellectual Property is strengthening SME brand development and commercial expansion through a business matchmaking initiative that generated over 48 million baht in transaction value. Director Oramon Saibthawee said SMEs are vital to Thailand's economy and that intellectual property should be used as a practical business tool, not merely for registration. The department deployed its program "Thai SMEs Add Value Through Intellectual Property" across six key economic zones—Bangkok, Ratchaburi, Chiang Mai, Songkhla, Khon Kaen, and Chachoengsao—between June and August 2025, providing practical knowledge in brand creation, logo design, trademark protection, content marketing, and IP filing assistance. Over 300 businesses from the program filed IP protection applications.
Beyond IP preparation, the department promoted market expansion through the IP SME Market event held September 4-6, 2025 at CentralWorld shopping center. Over 150 businesses from across Thailand participated, showcasing food and beverages, processed agricultural products, herbal and cosmetic goods, apparel, jewelry, lifestyle products, and pet supplies. The common theme was leveraging local creativity, identity, wisdom, and heritage to develop distinctive brands and products with added value.
The department also organized business matchmaking sessions connecting producers with buyers and commercial partners including Central Food Retail (TOPS) and CP All Public Company, enabling businesses to explore distribution expansion through modern retail, department stores, and wholesale networks. The event generated over 48 million baht in transaction and business negotiation value. Director Oramon noted the program's success in raising SME awareness of intellectual property protection while achieving tangible business growth, driving Thailand's innovation and competitive advantage. The department continues supporting businesses through its Intellectual Property Advisory Centers (IPAC).
