Navy Warns Bangkok of Severe Storms and Flash Floods
A strong low-pressure system is triggering severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across southern Thailand and Bangkok, with authorities warning of potential flash floods and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
On September 26, 2569, Rear Admiral Parat Rattanaichaiyphun, spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy, announced that the Navy Meteorological and Oceanographic Department reported a strong low-pressure system covering the eastern and central regions, combined with moderate southwest monsoon winds affecting the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. This has resulted in scattered heavy thunderstorms with intense rainfall and strong wind gusts across Navy Regions 3, 2 Upper, and 1.
The navy urged residents in at-risk areas to closely monitor weather advisories and prepare for dangers from heavy rainfall and strong winds, particularly in hillside, low-lying, and waterway-adjacent areas, as accumulated rainfall could trigger sudden floods, flash floods, and mudslides. Sea conditions show moderate waves in the Andaman Sea and slight-to-moderate waves in the Gulf of Thailand. Fishermen and maritime operators are advised to check weather conditions before departure, exercise caution, and avoid thunderstorm areas with abnormally strong winds and high waves.
For Bangkok on September 26, extreme caution is required due to nearly widespread thunderstorms with heavy rain in many areas and very heavy rainfall in some places, potentially falling in multiple waves. Residents are urged to plan travel carefully, avoid flooded areas, and monitor updates from relevant agencies.
