Thailand Seeks Increased Japanese Investment in Auto and Clean Energy
Thai officials met with Japan's industry minister to boost investment in automotive manufacturing and clean energy sectors, with separate ministerial leads assigned to advance each cooperation track.
Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Industry Minister Warawut Silparacha, and Energy Minister Eknath Porpanthung held joint talks with Japan's industry minister on September 22, 2025, at the Ministry of Finance to explore further economic cooperation.
Nitithanprapas revealed that discussions centered on increased investment in the automotive sector and industrial waste management. Recognizing Japan's superior expertise, he tasked Industry Minister Silparacha with advancing the automotive cooperation and assigned Energy Minister Porpanthung to lead continued development of clean energy technologies in biodiesel and bioenergy, with close collaboration to follow.
"Thailand and Japan maintain close cooperation, and Japan has invested in Thailand for many years," Nitithanprapas said. "Today's discussions covered many topics, with each ministry assigned to follow up to ensure this partnership yields concrete results."
