Royal Thai Mint Launches Second Treasury Coin Auction
The Royal Thai Mint's second Treasury Coin Market auction drew over 200 bidders in September, with rare commemorative and circulation coins selling well above their opening prices through competitive bidding on the new digital platform.
The Royal Thai Mint held its second Treasury Coin Market auction on September 17, 2026, with more than 200 participants bidding on three professionally graded rare coins. The standout lots were: a 1990 gold commemorative coin honoring Queen Sirikit's contributions to global health, graded PF 70, which started at 70,000 baht and sold for 126,000 baht after 25 bids; a 1991 nickel commemorative coin marking the World Bank governors' and IMF meetings, graded PF 70, which began at 1,000 baht and closed at 16,600 baht after 32 bids; and a 1997 five-baht circulation coin graded MS 67, starting at 3,000 baht and hammering down at 16,000 baht after 36 bids. The electronic auction system demonstrated real-time transparent bidding and strong public interest, with final prices exceeding typical market values for similar coins. Since launching the Treasury Coin Market platform on August 24, 2026, the Royal Thai Mint has successfully raised the profile of Thai cultural assets using international digital standards. The next auction is scheduled for October 17, 2026.
