Truck Plows Into Motorcycle at Roundabout; One Dead

An 18-wheel truck collided with a motorcycle at the Thao Thep and Thao Sri roundabout after the bike suddenly cut in front of the truck, preventing the driver from braking in time. The collision resulted in one death. On September 24, 2026, Deputy Superintendent Thirawat Chupong of the Thalang Police Investigative Division in Phuket received a report of the crash involving a motorcycle rider with severe injuries at the roundabout on the outbound side of Sri Sunthon Subdistrict, Thalang District, Phuket. He reported the incident to Phuket Thalang Police Commander Nikorn Chuthong before proceeding to investigate the scene. At the scene, officers found both the 18-wheel truck and motorcycle involved. Thalang Hospital staff examined the victim and confirmed that Ms. Pavini, 53, the motorcycle driver, was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, Mr. Somsak, 37, was taken into custody for investigation and legal action. When questioned, Mr. Somsak stated that he was driving the truck from Ao Makham Port toward Surat Thani Province. As he approached the roundabout, the motorcycle suddenly cut in front of him without warning, leaving him no time to brake. The truck struck the motorcycle on its front passenger side and ran over it, resulting in the rider's death. Meanwhile, police are continuing to examine witness statements and closed-circuit camera footage from the surrounding area to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the accident. Forensic pathologists from Vachira Hospital Phuket have been coordinated to perform an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death before proceeding with legal action. Personnel from the Phuket Charity Foundation have already transported the victim's body to Vachira Hospital Phuket.
