Undercover Police Pose as Rider to Bust Drug Dealer in Phuket
Phuket police arrested a 29-year-old drug dealer in the Thai Nai area after officers posed as a motorcycle taxi driver and passenger to penetrate the congested neighborhood, seizing over 540 methamphetamine pills and crystal meth.
On September 10, police from Chalong Station reported that at 8 p.m. on September 9, officers received a tip that drug dealers were distributing narcotics in the Thai Nai community, a congested residential area where standard enforcement is difficult. To overcome the area's narrow layout and tight surveillance network, officers devised an undercover plan: one officer dressed as a motorcycle taxi driver while another posed as a passenger to enter the target zone without alerting the suspect.
When officers reached the meeting point, they identified the suspect—Anuwan (surname withheld), 29—and immediately revealed themselves and moved in for arrest. Despite attempting to flee, the suspect was surrounded and apprehended.
Police seized 541 methamphetamine pills, approximately 3.29 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a Yamaha Nmax motorcycle (red plate, valued at about 98,000 baht), one mobile phone, and 12,210 baht in cash believed to be drug sale proceeds. The suspect was charged with possession of Class 1 narcotics for commercial distribution and has been handed to investigators for prosecution.
