Woman Attacked By Neighbor Over Slow Driveway Reversal

A 43-year-old woman reported being verbally assaulted, threatened, and physically struck by a neighbor and his family in a narrow soi in Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani province. The dispute began on the evening of September 4 when she was reversing her car into her driveway and took longer than usual due to the narrow space. The neighbor's son got out of his vehicle and verbally attacked her, then hit her arm, while his father—identified as a municipal works department employee—and sister joined in with shouting and threats, including the warning that she would "have to stay here a long time," which she interprets as a threat to her family's safety since her elderly parents and a six-year-old child also live in the home. After filing a police report with CCTV evidence, she was told the police could only record the incident in the daily log, mediate, and issue a fine of 500 baht; the situation worsened when the neighbors returned at night to shout threats at her boyfriend. The victim later went for an X-ray and found bruising on her arm while awaiting forensic examination results. She believes the conflict may stem from an earlier incident when she asked the neighbor about rice distribution to residents in the area that her household did not receive. The community advocate, Ekkaphop Luong Prasert, stated that the physical assault clearly falls under criminal code article 295 and said he would coordinate with Lam Luk Ka police to follow up on the case and prevent further incidents, while also working with local officials to mediate the neighborly dispute and help the community members reach a peaceful resolution.
