Woman Stabs Boyfriend to Death in Condo Over Phone Jealousy
A 35-year-old woman fatally stabbed her live-in boyfriend of nearly a decade during a struggle over his phone in a Chonburi condominium early September 18, claiming self-defense after he grabbed her throat.
Police in Muang Chonburi responded at 4:30 a.m. on September 18 to reports of assault inside a condominium on Mueang District, Chonburi Province. Officers found the suspect, 35-year-old Ms. Phirinee (surname withheld), crying in shock and distress outside a seventh-floor room. Inside, they discovered the victim, 36-year-old Ekpong (surname withheld), lying in a pool of blood with no pulse or consciousness. Preliminary examination revealed one stab wound to the left side of his chest above the breast. Rescue personnel performed CPR but were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Ms. Phirinee's account, she and the victim had been in a relationship and living together for nearly ten years, though they had been arguing frequently in recent weeks. After a brief separation, they reunited about four days before the incident. She noticed a change in his behavior and suspected he was involved with another woman, so she asked to see his phone. When he refused, they argued and struggled over the device. The victim then pushed her in the chest and grabbed her throat. Ms. Phirinee claimed she grabbed the nearest object in self-defense without realizing it was a knife, and stabbed him once. She did not expect the wound to be fatal.
Seeing the large amount of blood, Ms. Phirinee immediately called emergency services herself. She told officers she was deeply distressed and expressed remorse, saying if she could turn back time she would not do it again and that she wanted to apologize if he recovered. Police have detained her for further investigation and are collecting evidence and witness statements. The exact circumstances remain under investigation.
