Women Forced to Pay 100,000 Baht at Bangkok Nightclub
A Bangkok nightclub in Thonglor allegedly trapped customers into paying 100,000 baht by blocking their exit until they settled the full bill, despite only ordering 20,000 baht in drinks.
A consumer group member has shared an account of a nightclub experience in Thonglor, Bangkok, where she and her friends were required to pay 100,000 baht for two reserved tables. The group was not initially aware of the 50,000 baht minimum charge per table. Although they were willing to pay if the service justified the expense, they said the VIP table they paid for was blocked by non-VIP tables, obscuring their view of the DJ. After spending roughly 20,000 baht on consumables, they wanted to leave but were allegedly forced to pay the full 100,000 baht or be prevented from exiting the establishment. The additional 79,000 baht they paid was not for any goods or services ordered, but solely to leave the venue. When they attempted to discuss the issue with the manager, they reported he was dismissive and inattentive. They also encountered the security staff, whom they described as behaving aggressively and threatening, with one staff member allegedly warning their companions to watch their words and calling out to associates outside to keep them under surveillance.
