30 Jul Khaosod

Singer Ja Singhchai's new single "Rules of the Waiting" has sparked major momentum on social media and gone viral on TikTok, with over 100,000 user-created content clips using the song. The music video views have surged rapidly, surprising even Ja himself with the overwhelming response.

Ja explained that the song, written by Games Ratchakan Khamkron and arranged by Thangsai Thawarachote, tells the story of someone waiting for an ex-lover to return. For the music video, he cast his close friend Neck Narupol as the lead character, with Pong Thaibaan directing and writing the script. The storyline depicts a man obsessively visiting a karaoke bar to see a woman he likes, serving as a metaphor for how love can drive people to madness.

Regarding the vocal performance, Ja noted this is his most challenging song yet, requiring four hours of singing with heavy emotional intensity and powerful vocal techniques. He described using his "inner voice" extensively and pulling from deep emotional reserves, saying he breaks into sweat from the effort. While his singing voice is naturally sweet, this song demanded he use a rawer, more teenage angst-ridden delivery that better suited the track's emotional weight.

The song began trending on TikTok even before the full release, with tens of thousands of users creating content with it on the first day. Ja expressed gratitude for the viral support, noting most comments relate the song to people's own relationship experiences. He emphasized that while he chooses songs he enjoys, he cannot predict which ones will become hits, and he now focuses simply on giving his best effort to each project rather than worrying about commercial success.

Karen Weavers Blend Tradition With Modern Design

A Karen weaving group from Ban Lai Gaew has thrived for over 30 years by blending traditional handloom techniques with contemporary design, now selling at Chiang Mai's Jing Jai Market while attracting young people to the craft.

Karen Weavers Blend Tradition With Modern Design
30 Jul Khaosod

For over three decades, the Karen weaving group from Ban Lai Gaew has steadily created handwoven textiles and now stands among Chiang Mai's leading craft businesses. This demonstrates that local wisdom continues to hold value and grow gracefully alongside the modern world.

Karen Weaving Doitao now brings the weavers' work to diverse audiences every Saturday and Sunday at Jing Jai Market in Chiang Mai, a space showcasing quality craft creators, designers, and local products from across the North.

Among many creative shops, Ban Lai Gaew's weaving group stands out by seamlessly blending tradition with contemporary design. Their hand-loomed cotton, naturally dyed and created on traditional looms, has evolved into clothing and everyday items suited to modern lifestyles—practical, wearable daily wear that preserves the soul of handcraft.

Customers choose these pieces not just for beauty, but because they recognize the value of craftsmanship with stories, people, and ways of life behind them. Each item becomes more than a product—it is a conversation between maker and user, carrying meaning through every thread.

Bell Sirindha Ploykalya, a young saleswoman passionate about Karen weaving, says: "Our work is hand-loomed cotton, naturally dyed and woven on traditional looms—techniques passed down through generations. I'm so proud because behind one piece of clothing, many lives come together to create it. From the cotton farmer to the dyer, the weaver, the seamstress—everyone is the heart of this work."

This reflects how developing craft doesn't mean abandoning the past, but giving traditional wisdom a place in today's world and moving confidently toward the future.

Like 17-year-old Wannika, a young person learning and growing with the community business, many youth are stepping in: "I'm happy so many customers come. I get to sell, talk with foreign tourists, and practice language skills every week. This work teaches me both how to work and how to communicate with many people."

These young people represent an important signal—Ban Lai Gaew Karen weaving is not merely a heritage of the past, but becoming inspiration for the next generation and the community's future.

Many who visit the shop start by falling in love with the soft, natural colors of cotton dyes before becoming captivated by the people's stories. Often, the relationship between buyer and community extends beyond the transaction into village visits, meetings with weavers, and intimate learning of Karen Ploi ways of life.

Since 1994, Ban Lai Gaew's Karen weaving group is writing a new chapter in Thai craft—a story where wisdom, design, sustainability, and the power of young people walk together. The future of craft is shaped by those who still believe in the value of handmade work and collectively nurture their roots to grow on beautifully.

If you visit Chiang Mai, stop by Ban Lai Gaew's weaving at Jing Jai Market every Saturday and Sunday starting at 6:30 am. You may discover that the finest craft is not just beautiful—it is filled with human spirit and purpose.

On July 30, 2024, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Public Health Dr. Ekachai Phieurseevachara announced that the Ministry of Public Health has established a joint task force with the National Health Security Office (NHSO) to urgently investigate allegations that the 'MooProm' health application contains inaccurate data. The investigation will focus on three key issues: health facilities falsifying records to meet national health database completeness standards, facilities falsifying data to meet performance indicators (KPI), and facilities falsifying records related to budget disbursement claims.

Dr. Ekachai stated that the Ministry values accurate, transparent, and reliable health data and emphasized that the application consolidates information from various health service providers. He assured the public that any errors will be corrected immediately without cover-ups or negligence. The working group, chaired by Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr. Sopon Iamsiritaworn and including representatives from the NHSO, is expected to complete its investigation within two weeks.

The Ministry confirmed that if the investigation finds intentional falsification, misuse of data, or corrupt practices, it will take disciplinary action and coordinate with relevant agencies accordingly. However, if the findings indicate only data errors or process mistakes, the Ministry will promptly correct the information and improve systems to prevent recurrence. Dr. Ekachai emphasized that the investigation will uphold principles of good governance, transparency, and fairness, and that public access to personal health data is an important accountability mechanism.

On July 30, shoppers at Petchkasem 13 Village market in Pathum Thani Province gathered around a giant golden-hued tortoise drawing crowds and attracting numerous visitors taking photographs. Many residents examined the numbers visible on the tortoise's shell with great interest and excitement.

The tortoise's owner, Ms. Nalinton, identified the animal as an African spurred tortoise (Sulcata), the largest land tortoise in Africa and third-largest in the world. She explained that Folk, her eight-year-old male tortoise purchased for 2,500 baht, regularly strolls through the market and remarkably finds his way home independently without assistance.

While the owner does not gamble herself, she noted that many people have won lottery prizes after encountering Folk. One laundry shop owner in particular has become a regular visitor who chats with the tortoise before purchasing lottery tickets, and has reportedly won the jackpot for ten consecutive draws without explanation. A fried fish vendor also touched Folk's shell, identifying numbers 8 and 0 as prominent markings and plans to use them for the next lottery draw.

Thai Woman Faces Drug Charges After Ice Smuggling to Japan
30 Jul Khaosod

On July 30, police reported progress in the case involving the arrest of 28-year-old Ms. Chudatip at Fukuoka Airport after 900 grams of ice was found hidden in her carry-on luggage on July 12. She had traveled with her 28-year-old boyfriend Sarawut and a friend as couriers delivering packages for Thai residents in Japan. Her parents, 53-year-old Thanasak and 45-year-old Kanyavee, filed a report stating their daughter was careless in not inspecting the packages but has no history of drug involvement. They suspect the person who gave her the package may be connected to a larger trafficking network. Police are continuing their investigation, tracking the delivery rider's vehicle through CCTV footage from multiple locations. The National Narcotics Bureau deputy spokesman disclosed that authorities have identified the vehicle's make, model, color, and license plate but are withholding these details to prevent the rider from fleeing. Only one rider was seen in the vehicle with no passengers, though police have not confirmed the rider's gender. The bureau has issued a public call for the rider to come forward and clear their name, but no one has appeared. Authorities note this silence suggests possible involvement in the international drug trafficking network. Once evidence is compiled, police will seek a court warrant for arrest on charges of conspiracy to distribute and export Category 1 narcotics (heroin) without authorization. On July 31, the Thai woman will appear before Japanese prosecutors to learn whether charges will be filed.

Suspect's Aunt Reveals Last Day She Saw Him Before Russian Siblings Vanished
30 Jul Khaosod

The aunt of suspect Pong, 43, revealed that she last saw him on July 27 around 9 p.m. when he came to her house asking for help fixing electrical wiring. After receiving a phone call, he told her he needed to go to Chanthaburi because his child was sick, and left. That was the last time she saw him, leading her to believe he has fled to Chanthaburi province. She described him as violent and prone to brutality, mentioning he was severely abused by his own father as a child. She appealed to him to turn himself in, warning that if he dies, only rescue workers will be involved. Police have questioned the wife of another suspect, Thang, who claimed she had not seen him since July 27. However, at least five villagers reported hearing Thang cry for help on July 29 in a desperate tone, prompting police to suspect he may have been murdered to silence him. Officers and local administrators are conducting a coordinated search in a dense forest area opposite a Chinese shrine near a temple in Chon Buri, believed to be where Pong may have taken the Russian siblings.
