Abbot Adul Denies 10 Million Baht Rumor, Vows to Stay
7h ago Khaosod

On August 21, monks at Wat Pa Adul Yaram in Khon Kaen's Muang District conducted evening chanting, attended by local Buddhist lay followers. Abbot Phra Kru Adul Sarnit, the temple's abbot, addressed the situation by explaining that temple establishment is complete because it followed proper monastic legal procedures and received official announcement in the Royal Gazette. He urged skeptics to study the law and temple establishment process, comparing the completion to a marriage certificate—once filed and announced, the matter is concluded. Some documents from 30 years ago may be lost to time, but the official announcement in the Royal Gazette is final. He also humorously remarked that some matters must remain confidential, like a James Bond film.

Regarding the 10 million baht rumor, Abbot Phra Kru Adul Sarnit firmly denied that anyone had called offering money and urged the public not to believe false rumors, stating that even if someone offered hundreds of millions or billions of baht, he would not leave the temple. He asked people not to believe the money rumors, saying "no one called, and whether it's hundreds of millions or billions, we will not go. We will stay here."

Meanwhile, Saengdao Chantavichai, 76, a temple lay leader, clarified accusations that the temple was dividing land among committee members. He confirmed that all temple officials volunteered without expecting personal benefit, seeking only to preserve the temple and its traditions. He expressed concern for the abbot's safety following ongoing disturbances. The temple currently has five lay leaders of varying ages, with the most senior over 80 years old. Saengdao stated that the land in question is vacant and any descendants' legal claims would be without merit. He also noted that disturbances have occurred since 1992, and if one entrance is blocked, they may try another.

Driver Ignores Warning, Pickup Truck Nearly Swept Away

Heavy rain across Udon Thani province over the past two to three days has caused widespread flooding and water overflow affecting farmland in Chaiyawan, Nong Han, Ku Kaew, Phen, and Ban Dung districts, which are crossed by the main canal system. Water levels remain high. A dashcam recorded a dramatic moment as a pickup truck attempted to pass through a bridge construction zone on Highway 2022 between Sumsai and Ban Dung near Non Ngam and Prasanti villages in Na Kham subdistrict. Officials had set up warning cones and restricted access to the area. When the pickup truck approached, an official warned that passage was impossible due to flooding and potential danger, but the driver ignored the warning and was allowed through. Moments later, the road suddenly collapsed before their eyes, and the truck sank immediately. Officials were shocked, remarking that the driver had been warned but chose to push through anyway. Fortunately, Ban Dung District Officer Suriyont Donsomjit and local residents rushed in to rescue the driver and pull the truck out just before it could be swept away by the current. The district officer is monitoring water levels closely and has warned residents that Highway 2022 in the bridge construction zone is impassable due to road collapse. Alternative routes are available through Nong Han and Ban Dung districts. In Ko Khaem subdistrict of Ku Kaew district, floodwaters have submerged rice fields with water levels dropping only slightly, though residents are taking advantage of the situation to fish in the flooded areas.

8h ago Khaosod

On August 21 at 9 p.m., a motorcycle accident occurred when a rider lost control and plunged into a water pipe trench approximately 3 meters deep near the Ban Moh Subdistrict Cultural Center in Muang District, Phetchaburi Province. The injured man, 41-year-old Chitpong, sustained severe injuries including a fractured leg and multiple wounds. Ban Moh Subdistrict rescue workers and Sawang Saraphetch Foundation volunteers responded to the scene, finding the motorcycle covered in mud at the bottom of the pit. Rescue operations were difficult due to the narrow, slippery, and deep conditions of the site. It took approximately 15 minutes to safely extract the injured man and transport him to Phrachomklao Hospital in Phetchaburi. A witness who followed the injured rider explained that the motorcycle likely swerved to avoid an oncoming car on a muddy road that had been rained on, causing it to fall into the deep trench. The witness noted that the construction area lacked adequate lighting and warning signs were unclear, requiring drivers to exercise extreme caution. The witness urged relevant authorities to strictly oversee safety measures in the area.

A two-story wooden and concrete house in Si Kaew, Nakhon Ratchasima caught fire on August 21, 2025, in the bedroom area. The resident, who was washing dishes inside, smelled smoke and went to investigate, only to encounter flames and an explosion that shattered nearby window glass, forcing them to flee and call for help from neighbors. Fire trucks from Si Kaew Municipality, led by Preecha Chanwong, the Si Kaew Municipality Mayor, arrived and deployed water sprays to control the blaze in the bedroom, extinguishing it within approximately 15 minutes. Preliminary investigation suggests the fire may have been caused by an electrical outlet that was simultaneously powering a fan and a phone charger, causing an overload and short circuit that generated heat and ignited the surrounding fan wiring. However, officials are awaiting formal confirmation from relevant authorities on the exact cause of the fire.

Thai Mart CEO Charts Growth Plan, Eyes Big Presenter Reveal

Thai Mart Marketplace CEO outlines expansion strategy focused on helping Thai entrepreneurs build brands through a mobile app, while rejecting price-war competition in favor of trust-based growth and young presenter recruitment.

Thai Mart CEO Charts Growth Plan, Eyes Big Presenter Reveal
8h ago Khaosod

Not Panuthvach Nakvisut, chief executive of Thai Mart Marketplace, has detailed the platform's growth strategy and commitment to developing Thai brands through a smartphone app designed for real-time vendor-customer communication. Originally, merchants managed orders and alerts via computer, but the shift to mobile-first usage prompted the app development.

Nakvisut believes Thai entrepreneurs have high skill and capability but lack marketing and branding expertise, typically becoming subcontractors rather than brand owners. Thai Mart invites them to build their own brands for sustainable long-term growth. The platform operates on three core principles: fairness to both buyers and sellers with transparent, fixed commission rates that don't change daily or monthly; active listening and improvement, with the owner personally responding to social media comments; and authenticity, with strict counterfeit removal to guarantee genuine products.

Thai Mart will not compete on price cuts or discount codes against major platforms, arguing that price wars force platforms to increase fees on merchants, who then raise product prices, ultimately burdening consumers in a cycle of problems. Instead, the platform builds trust through value and quality, generating revenue from alternative channels like payment gateways and ancillary services within a broader business ecosystem.

Future plans include digital marketing across all social media platforms and recruiting young-generation presenters to drive engagement and expand the user base across all age groups. The platform is open to foreign capital and international brands provided they meet quality standards, pay taxes correctly, and compete under the same rules.

Government Announces Three Economic Support Packages for Kalasin
9h ago Khaosod

On August 21, 2026, Prime Minister's Office Minister Suksamrhai Wanthaniyakul led a delegation to Nong Bua Jod Dong Ling School in Kamlai District, Kalasin Province, to present policy initiatives and inspect village and community fund operations. The delegation included several MPs from northeastern provinces and was welcomed by Kalasin Governor Suwattana Khemthananphet, provincial officials, local administration representatives, and fund committee members.

Governor Suwattana reported that Kalasin has 1,609 village and community funds across 18 districts and 135 subdistricts, serving as a critical mechanism for residents to access capital, create livelihoods, and strengthen the provincial economy. The province aims to develop into a high-value agricultural zone with diverse tourism while ensuring no one is left behind.

Minister Suksamrhai announced three major economic relief packages: First, a Thai Help Thai program providing 4.4 billion baht to reduce interest burdens for approximately 63,125 village funds nationwide, with Kamlai District needing to accelerate applications. Second, a second million-baht fund allocating 3.4 billion baht to rehabilitate struggling "red-flag" funds by providing 1 million baht per fund, which Kamlai District has fully received across all 111 qualifying funds. Third, the SML Plus program, which has approved 349 funds worth 99.5 million baht, with an additional 1,241 funds worth 329 million baht recently approved for the second round.

The minister also highlighted government measures to reduce electricity costs, setting the first 200 units at 3 baht per unit and separating public lighting costs from household expenses. The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting village funds as mechanisms for job creation, debt reduction, and strengthening the grassroots economy across all regions.

Ban Na Sao Launches Community-Based Drug Recovery Program Phase 2

Ban Na Sao district in Surat Thani launched phase 2 of a community-based drug recovery program offering treatment alternatives to hospitalization, with officials emphasizing the need for coordinated government, private sector, and community

Ban Na Sao Launches Community-Based Drug Recovery Program Phase 2
9h ago Khaosod

Ban Na Sao district launched the Community-Based Treatment and Care program phase 2 for drug users on August 21, 2569 at Patthanamrom Temple in Ban Na Sao district, Surat Thani province. Officials including Supha Kanchana, Surat Thani Provincial Administrative Organization president; Uthai Tueaksubarn, district chief; and Associate Professor Pharmacist Dr. Withaya Kulsomboon attended the opening alongside police, health officials, village headmen, nurses, and community representatives.

Kanchana stated that drug addiction is a serious problem affecting individuals, families, the economy, society, and the nation. To address this challenge, the program offers drug users treatment alternatives beyond hospital care through community-based recovery that is flexible and less disruptive to daily life. She emphasized the need for coordinated support from government, private sectors, and community members to prevent relapse.

Dr. Kulsomboon noted that the program represents an important step in building knowledge and skills for practitioners to provide continuous community-level care for drug users, which is central to sustainable drug problem solutions. He highlighted that drug abuse impacts security, safety, health, economics, and quality of life, requiring cooperation from all sectors—government, academia, civil society, and especially local communities.

The Public Health Ministry prioritizes drug prevention through integrated health and social approaches, focusing on risk reduction, protective factors, and continuous community care under the principle that patients deserve rehabilitation opportunities, not just punishment. The ministry's implementation strategy includes developing personnel capacity through practical learning so counselors have modern skills and understand patient context, and establishing continuous community care that links hospital services with community follow-up to reduce relapse.

Temple Launches Free Khon Classes for Children and Families

Wat Phai Lom Temple in Nakhon Pathom offers free weekly khon and traditional Thai dance classes for children and families, aiming to preserve cultural heritage while bringing generations together.

Every Sunday morning, a group of young students gathers at Wat Phai Lom in Nakhon Pathom to practise the graceful movements of khon and traditional Thai dance, dressed in white T-shirts and bright red jong kraben loincloths as Thai music plays in the background.

The free classes are part of an initiative at Wat Phai Lom Temple, led by acting abbot Phra Khru Palad Sitthiwat, known as Luang Phi Namfon, in collaboration with Thai cultural arts instructor Sutsanguan Thongma and a team of khon and dance teachers.

The programme, which began in July, aims to give children, students and members of the public an opportunity to learn and help preserve traditional Thai performing arts, which organisers see as an important part of the country's cultural identity and soft power.

But the classes have also become a weekend family activity. Parents who bring their children to learn khon or dance often join classes themselves, turning the temple grounds into a shared learning space for different generations.

That was the case for Wallapa Wongsakdirin, whose daughter attends the khon class. She said she chose the programme because it is free and gives her daughter the chance to learn an art form that requires discipline and dedicated practice.

While waiting for her daughter, Wallapa decided to take Thai dance classes herself. "This is a very good project organised by Wat Phai Lom," she said.

Dr. Thidarat Suebyat, a lecturer at Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, said learning khon and Thai dance could help children develop concentration while encouraging young people and the wider public to preserve Thailand's traditional arts.

The programme also reflects Luang Phi Namfon's aim of making the temple's space available for public benefit, creating a place where people can learn, practise and spend time together beyond the digital world.

The second night of Ray McDonald's funeral rites took place on August 21 at Wat Yang, a royal temple, with the hall filled with grief-stricken family and friends from both inside and outside the entertainment industry. McDonald, a celebrated actor and presenter, died suddenly on August 19 at his residence in Bangkok's Pattanakarn district. The ceremony hall was surrounded by countless flower wreaths of various styles—fresh flowers, paper flowers, wreaths donated to charities, potted plants, fans, and bicycles—sent continuously by mourners.

The second night's merit-making ceremony was organized by Traill International School, represented by Director and CEO Mr. Robert Traill, along with contributions from Trill International School, Samran Chuay Jamnaek (Eed Fly), Rahad Ratchakham (Frog Taxi), and Element72 Co. Ltd. Young actor Uck Akkarat Nimitrchai attended to pay his respects, describing Ray as an idol for both his acting and presentation skills, praising his genuine and natural performances and his principled character that remained steadfast amid social trends. Uck reflected that the sudden loss was heartbreaking and admitted to rewatching old photos and clips; he came to support Ray's widow and son Mika, noting that the tragedy reminded him to value his own health and not neglect it for work or passion.

Actress Jieab Chern Yim also attended to offer condolences and share memories, revealing that she and Ray had grown close through working together on various programs and considered him a dear older brother. She described him as dedicated, charming, approachable with everyone, and an icon of 1990s coolness. "Today I came to sincerely support his family and close friends so they know they are not alone, and I wish Ray travels onward to a better realm with happiness in heaven, continuing his journeys without the burden of a heavy backpack," she said.

Hospital Defends Care for Kamphaengphet Staff Member Who Died
9h ago Khaosod

Questions about patient transfer standards have arisen following the sudden death of Wiraphat, 37, a Kamphaengphet Rajabhat University staff member known as "Ao," who died from pulmonary embolism at Kamphaengphet Hospital on August 17. Her family received her body to conduct religious rites at her home in Tambon Pradang, Amphoe Wang Chao, Kamphaengphet Province, amid grief from relatives and colleagues.

Family members and coworkers expressed understanding of her critical condition but remained concerned about delays in her transfer and pre-critical care. On August 16, she experienced dizziness, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing, leading to admission at a private hospital in Kamphaengphet, where oxygen levels were found at 88%, with heart rate at 125 beats per minute and a positive cardiac troponin test. The hospital referred her to Kamphaengphet Hospital.

On August 17 at 11:32 a.m., emergency room staff at Kamphaengphet Hospital took vital signs: body temperature 37.0°C, blood pressure 117/82 mmHg, heart rate 118 beats per minute, respiratory rate 22 breaths per minute, and oxygen saturation 91%. They performed blood tests, chest X-rays, oxygen therapy via mask and nasal cannula, IV fluids, and cross-matched blood. An obstetric specialist was consulted.

At 17:17 p.m., the obstetrician performed abdominal ultrasound and found a uterine fibroid but no abdominal fluid. Treatment included one unit of blood transfusion, nutritional supplements, pain relief, and bleeding control medication.

At 17:30 p.m., while the patient was urinating in bed, she experienced dizziness, fainting, and convulsions for approximately 30 seconds, followed by sweating, cold extremities, and heavy breathing. Blood pressure was 128/100 mmHg, pulse 90 beats per minute, and blood sugar measured 94 mg%. Oxygen was increased to 15 liters per minute, and an emergency CT scan was requested.

As her breathing worsened to 30 breaths per minute, doctors inserted an endotracheal tube. Her consciousness declined, blood pressure became unmeasurable, pulse increased to 135 beats per minute, and she was given medications to raise blood pressure. At 18:24 p.m., the patient died peacefully.

Family and coworkers later visited Kamphaengphet Hospital to inquire about the treatment process in detail. Dr. Sompheng Chokchaimuangwong, Deputy Director for Health Service Development and Support, and medical staff received them, expressed condolences, and provided a detailed treatment timeline.

Dark Water Near Electronics Plant Pollutes Village Water Supply
9h ago Khaosod

Prachuap Khiri Khan residents have filed complaints over dark, foul-smelling water discovered in a drainage ditch beside an electronics recycling plant, suspected to contain industrial waste and potentially threatening the public water supply. The black water appears in the drainage channel between village 9 in Bo Thong Subdistrict and village 20 in Muang Kao Subdistrict, Kabinburi District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, with a 30-meter stretch reaching depths of about 1 meter. While its exact source remains unclear, residents suspect it may be leaking from the adjacent electronics recycling facility. Local resident Boon Naewsi expressed concern that the contaminated water could flow downstream into the large public reservoir used for the village water system. Village headman Withawat Suiyacharoen from village 20 noted this marks the first major incident since 2568, when foul odors first appeared. He stated that the water had returned to its current dark and filthy state, resembling industrial waste. The contaminated area lies only 100 meters from the village water intake, which supplies tap water to approximately 3,000 residents. To prevent toxins from entering the public reservoir, officials have arranged for backhoes and sand trucks to block the water's flow into the village water system.
