Backhoe Falls From Truck, Operator Killed
A 30-year-old backhoe operator died on August 19 when his machine fell from a six-wheeled truck and crushed him at Sri Phlo Physical Education College in Chon Buri Province. Heavy rain caused the backhoe to slip off the truck bed and overturn. Some residents have questioned whether proper ritual offerings were made before work began at the site, though authorities say the accident is still under investigation.
At 5 p.m. on August 19, rescue workers responded to a call that a backhoe had fallen from a six-wheeled truck, resulting in a fatality. The incident occurred beneath a large bodhi tree within the sports ground of Sri Phlo Physical Education College in Nong Mai Daeng Subdistrict, Muang District, Chon Buri Province. Rescue teams found a small backhoe overturned on the ground and the body of a 30-year-old man named Kraisor, who had been crushed in the head area by the backhoe and died at the scene. Officials removed the body from the accident site.
According to questioning of Charan, age 50, a coworker and the driver of the six-wheeled truck involved in the incident, Kraisor had been operating the backhoe while loading it onto the parked truck when heavy rain began falling. The rain made both the backhoe's legs and the truck bed slippery, causing the backhoe to lose its grip, slide off the back of the truck, flip over, and crush Kraisor's head, killing him instantly.
Police initially invited Charan to the Muang Chon Buri police station for further questioning to gather facts and conduct legal proceedings. Kraisor's body was taken to Chon Buri Hospital for autopsy. Following news of the incident, residents visited the accident site and engaged in widespread discussion, noting that the location sits beneath a large, ancient bodhi tree estimated to be at least 50 years old. Some residents questioned whether proper ritual offerings or apologies to the spirits of the site had been made before work began in that area. However, such spiritual observances are matters of personal belief, while the true cause of the accident remains under investigation by authorities, including examination of site conditions, weather, and procedures for loading the backhoe onto the truck.
