Hudson Disappointed But Determined After Thailand's 0-2 AFF Cup Loss

Hudson Disappointed But Determined After Thailand's 0-2 AFF Cup Loss
1h ago Khaosod

Thailand national team coach Anthony Hudson expressed disappointment with the first leg of the AFF Championship final but remained determined ahead of the second match in Hanoi. In the first leg on August 22 at Rajamangala Stadium, Thailand lost 0-2 at home to Vietnam. The second leg will take place on August 26 at Mỹ Đình Stadium in Hanoi, where Thailand must win by at least 2 goals to force extra time, or win 3-0 to capture their eighth championship title.

After the match, English coach Anthony Hudson stated: "First, I have to say I'm disappointed with the result. We deserved a better outcome given the chances we had, and it's not surprising that Vietnam's goalkeeper was the standout player. But I'm still proud of the players and coaching staff. We still have an opportunity in the second match in Hanoi."

When asked about Vietnam's substitution, Hudson said he was not surprised, explaining that the two players have different playing styles. "The game isn't over yet because we still have a match waiting in Hanoi, so both teams still have a chance to be the winner. Most of the substitutions came down to fitness, which will be evident on the pitch. I'm very pleased that many young players have been able to step up and play with the senior squad."

Hudson praised the youth contingent in the final: "Playing in a championship final with seven players aged 23 or younger is something I'm very proud of. Personally, I may regret that many should have had better fitness. If our players were fitter, I believe the result would have been different. But we gave everything we had in today's match."

Regarding the second leg at Mỹ Đình Stadium in Hanoi, Hudson remarked: "If I hadn't spoken with the players after the match, I would have already bought a ticket home. But we still have one more game to play. If we score the first goal in the second match, the atmosphere will definitely change. Now we need to recover the players' bodies as quickly as possible, because I believe we still have a chance to come back and win in the next match."

Entertainment Figures Pay Respects at Ray McDonald's Third Night Wake

On August 22, 2025, the third night of chanting ceremonies for beloved actor and host Ray McDonald was held at Wat Yang, a royal temple in Bangkok. The atmosphere remained filled with grief from family, friends, and entertainment industry colleagues following Ray's sudden death at his home in the Pattanakarn area on August 19.

The hall overflowed with wreaths and floral tributes from admirers, including fresh flowers, paper flowers, wreaths donated to various charities, potted plants, fans, and bicycles. Fans united in wearing orange—Ray's favorite color and the color of the Rerorn logo—as a symbol of love and connection. Nearly 20 friends who had ridden Vespas with Ray also gathered to pay tribute, reflecting the deep friendship they shared.

The ceremony was hosted by GMM Grammy, with numerous entertainment personalities attending, including Om Sunicha, Chakrit Yamnam with his wife Ann Phattira and son Podi, Nap Pornchai, Gob Thongsit, Cindy Bishop, Kathriya English, Peter Corp, Louis Scott, Noon Romida, Lek Busaba, Noon Siripan, Lukkaed Metinee, Mike Kinkopom, Pae Arak, Pelae Christopher, and Som Sukhpat.

After the ceremony, Lukkaed Metinee and Mike Kinkopom, both entertainment figures who grew up in the 1990s and had worked with Ray, spoke openly about their friend's passing. Lukkaed admitted feeling heartbroken, saying that although they hadn't seen each other in a long time, every encounter was filled with conversation and laughter. He normally doesn't attend funerals, but felt compelled to say goodbye to his friend one last time.

Mike shared that when he first arrived in Thailand, he frequently worked with Ray on modeling and television shows. Ray had been supportive and offered guidance throughout. Despite not seeing each other for nearly 20 years, Mike said their bond remained unchanged—they talked like old friends whenever they reunited.

When asked about attending the ceremony, Lukkaed said: "I came to bid farewell to a friend. My heart is heavy. We hadn't seen each other for a long time, but whenever we met, we would laugh together. We worked together and appeared in films and television programs. Mike probably knew Ray better than I did, as we both grew up in the 1990s."

Mike responded: "When I came to Thailand, I worked with Ray often—modeling and television appearances together. I'm deeply saddened by what happened. I came today to give strength and support to his family. Like Lukkaed said, we hadn't seen each other in nearly 20 years, but when we got together, we talked like we'd always been friends."

Lukkaed added: "Ray's mother must be suffering greatly, and she has young children. We can only tell her to stay strong and believe that everyone is giving her courage. Whether it's the mother or the children, they must continue to be strong—for the sake of the children."

When asked what it was like working together, Mike said: "Ray was such a lovely person. When I first came to Thailand, he took care of me and constantly offered guidance. He was excellent at looking after younger people. I'm truly heartbroken."

Lukkaed reflected: "Ray was funny and always had something to talk about. Whether we were on a film set, whether it was late at night or early in the morning, he never complained. He'd always find something to discuss, and we'd eat together. He was someone who...

PM Anutin Defends Exam Fraud Inquiry as Impartial
2h ago Khaosod

Prime Minister Anutin Anukulkul defended the government's investigation into corruption in civil service recruitment exams at Don Mueang Royal Thai Air Force Base Two on August 22, stating that the probe is being conducted swiftly and decisively. Those suspected or implicated have been prosecuted and removed from positions where they could gain financially, though all actions follow proper procedures. Anutin acknowledged media reports suggesting the investigation has not reached the highest-level figures involved, but countered that evidence will determine where the inquiry leads, adding that innocent people cannot be held responsible and that guilt must be determined by evidence, not assumption.

The investigation involves police and the National Anti-Corruption Commission, an independent body beyond government control. Anutin assured the public that no one will be exempt or excluded from accountability. When asked if the inquiry would extend to private tutors and exam brokers, he noted that questioning is ongoing and conclusions are pending. He rejected opposition efforts to connect current investigations to his time as Interior Minister in the previous government, stating he had cancelled the 2023 exam to ensure transparency. Anutin invited anyone with concerns to file complaints and assured cooperation with investigative agencies, though he cautioned against baseless allegations and emotional judgments.

After the interview, Anutin turned back to ask reporters whether they had interviewed Niratn Pongsithathawon, acting deputy secretary of the Interior Ministry and acting director-general of the Local Administration Promotion Department. When Anutin asked the official whether anyone had been exempted, Pongsithathawon replied, "No one, sir. You said whoever is involved is involved." Anutin then jokingly asked the official, "Does that mean me too?" Pongsithathawon confirmed no one was exempt, prompting Anutin to laugh and depart.

Thai Military Pushes Back on Cambodia Border Accusations

Thai Military Pushes Back on Cambodia Border Accusations
2h ago Khaosod

On August 22, Air Vice Marshal Prapas Saonjai, Deputy Commander of the Royal Thai Air Force and Director of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Information Center, responded to Cambodian media allegations that Thai forces have cleared land, built roads, and established military positions in border areas, which Cambodia claims violates its sovereignty. Prapas firmly stated that Thailand has no policy of invading or occupying neighboring territory and stressed the importance of separating allegations from facts.

Thailand's border activities are aimed at ensuring the safety of troops and civilians, preventing threats, and maintaining security in areas under Thai control and responsibility, he explained. He clarified that security measures are not border demarcation and should not be interpreted as changing the outcome of the bilateral boundary delimitation process that both countries have agreed upon.

When asked how Thailand would respond if Cambodia insisted the area was Cambodian territory, Prapas said anyone can make claims, but a claim does not automatically become fact. Any disputes over border lines or activities in disputed areas should be resolved by bringing maps, evidence, and facts to mechanisms both countries have agreed to use. He emphasized that both the General Border Committee and Joint Border Committee exist for this purpose and should be utilized.

Prapas stressed that borders cannot be changed by force and cannot be redefined through statements, news reports, or social media posts. When asked if Cambodia's accusations violated the ceasefire agreement, he noted that Thailand remains committed to the joint statement from the third special General Border Committee meeting on December 27, 2024, and de-escalation measures. However, agreements are obligations for both parties, not one-sided commitments.

Regarding information warfare, Prapas said he preferred not to label either side but emphasized that the Joint Information Center's role is to verify and clarify facts when allegations concern Thailand. He warned against allowing repeated claims to be perceived as facts and outlined the center's approach: allegations must be answered with facts, disputes with evidence, and disagreements through mutually accepted mechanisms.

When asked if Thailand agreed with Cambodia's stated preference for a peaceful resolution, Prapas strongly affirmed Thailand's commitment to this principle, stressing that peace must prevail both on the ground and in the information space.

Thailand created multiple first-half chances but suffered a breakthrough from Vietnam's quick counterattack, losing at home and reducing their hopes of winning the 2026 AFF Cup. The opening leg of the AFF Cup 2026 final took place on August 22 at Rajamangala Stadium, where Thailand faced defending champions Vietnam. Head coach Anthony Hudson selected goalkeeper Kampol Padamaorakkul, defenders Nattapong Sairee, Manuel Tomeyer, Seksarn Ratree, and captain Sarachai Uyeyen, midfielders Kkhana Khamyok and Yoskorn Borapha, and forwards Waris Chutong, Ousamah Tiengkham, Teerasak Phoypimai, and Chaiyapol Aditpohn. In the first half, both teams played cautiously, avoiding aggressive attacking play and relying instead on capitalizing from opponents' mistakes with quick counterattacks. Thailand had opportunities from long-range shots by Seksarn Ratree that hit the crossbar and Yoskorn Borapha's effort that was saved by Vietnam's goalkeeper, before the first half ended in a 0-0 draw. In the second half, substitute Nguyen Hai Long shot from close range in the penalty area in the 62nd minute to put Vietnam ahead 1-0. That was not enough as Nguyen Hai Long struck again in the 69th minute to extend Vietnam's lead to 2-0 and secure a decisive advantage before the return match. The second leg of the AFF Cup final will be played at Thong Nhat Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, on August 26 at 8:00 p.m.

Second Victim of Udon Thani Tutoring Center Abuse Flees to Korea
3h ago Khaosod

A 15-year-old boy has joined a growing number of alleged victims coming forward with abuse allegations against the owner of a military preparation tutoring center in Udon Thani province. The boy claims he was locked up, handcuffed, blindfolded, doused with water repeatedly, forced to drink murky white liquid, and had his fingerprints and dust smeared on him to fabricate evidence of theft. His mother, who was working in South Korea at the time, withdrew him from school and brought him abroad out of fear for his safety.

According to the boy's account, the incident occurred in late January when he arrived at the center to visit a childhood friend. He was physically restrained by a large man he identified as his friend's father, then allegedly subjected to abuse by the center's owner and instructor. He was stripped, cable-tied at the wrists and thumbs, dragged to a bathroom, and subjected to water torture with his face covered and a shower hose sprayed at him. His motorcycle tires were punctured, and he was threatened with drugging, shooting, and disposal. He was also forced to drink the murky liquid and threatened with drug possession charges if he reported the incident.

The boy reported the abuse to Muang Udon Thani police on January 31, but the case has made no progress because the family left Thailand due to intimidation threats. His mother confirmed she will not settle or accept compensation and plans to pursue legal action jointly with other victims' families to ensure authorities investigate and prosecute those responsible. The Udon Thani Education Office found the center operates without proper licensing and ordered its temporary closure.

3h ago Khaosod

On August 22, senior officials from the Department of Interior held a press conference at Phitsanulok Provincial Hall to announce the launch of "Clean Out Illegal Guns from Two Kwae" operation. An audit of gun licensing procedures in Muang Phitsanulok district uncovered 2,255 firearms missing from the system—the highest number in Thailand. The irregularities occurred between 2020 and 2026, when individuals received personal firearm purchase permits (Category 3) but these were never followed up with actual gun possession licenses (Category 4). Investigators suspect document forgery and unauthorized use of officials' signatures to illegally obtain weapons. The special task force conducted raids at three locations including a firearms shop near Pra Tuo Gate and residences of suspects in Pak Tok and Ngiao Ngam subdistricts. Investigators found that the names of over 300 civilians and community leaders were fraudulently used in permit applications, with many having no knowledge of or intention to buy weapons. Evidence of unauthorized document copying and signature use was also discovered, and authorities are expanding the investigation to all individuals involved.
