Police Seize Nearly Ton of Ice, Arrest Three Suspects
Police in Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi seized nearly one ton of methamphetamine and arrested three men in linked operations. The suspects were allegedly transporting the drug from Chonburi to southern Thailand, with one group caught on Bang Na‑Tradt Road and another at a gas station on Kanchanaphisek Road. Authorities say the bust follows a previous seizure of 900 kg of ice in September and further investigations are underway.
On October 3, police held a press conference announcing the arrest of Charin, 37, who was found with 350 kilograms of ice hidden in a tractor‑trailer and container truck, along with three mobile phones and a gold‑like necklace worth about 77 million baht. The suspects were apprehended on the inbound Bang Na–Tradt Road at kilometre 14 in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan. Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom said officers had received a tip that a drug network was moving narcotics from Chonburi through Bangkok to the south, using the tractor‑trailer to pick up the drugs in Ban Suan, Mueang Chonburi. On September 30, additional information led police to surveil the vehicle, which they spotted on the Chonburi bypass road before following it onto the Bang Na–Tradt inbound route.
In a related case, police announced the arrest of Katathorn (known as Jorj), 37, and Natephon (known as Frank), 33, who were found with 462 kilograms of ice, a van, a car, and two mobile phones worth over 150 million baht. The suspects were detained at a gas station on Kanchanaphisek Road in Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi. Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam said that after a major seizure of 900 kilograms of ice on September 21, investigators linked the pair to the Bang Bua Thong area. Officers observed them receiving the drugs in Saraburi and later searched the van, discovering the ice. Katathorn said he was to deliver the shipment to another group on orders from a man named Phumi, with the handover planned at the gas station. Officers then followed a nearby car and found Natephon waiting.
