Authorities File Additional Charges in Local Civil Service Exam Fraud Case
Authorities filed additional charges against three suspects in a civil service exam fraud scheme involving altered test questions, expanding a corruption case that has already implicated the director and staff of Srinakharinwirot University
On August 1, Deputy Police Commissioner Netiwit Thanasitthinitkul announced progress in the corruption case involving rigged recruitment exams for local civil service positions. On July 31, the director of the Education and Psychology Testing Center at Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) and four staff members involved in altering test questions received notice of charges.
Investigators have been ordered to travel to Bangkok's special detention facility to file additional charges against three more suspects for aiding officials in performing duties improperly under Criminal Code Articles 86 and 157. The three newly charged individuals are Win Thanphotchoraphokhin, an advisor at Kasetsart University's promotion and training office; Sataporn Thanphotchoraphokhin; and Sergeant Dr. Pichit Tangphrom, director of strategy and budget at Wichian Buri Municipality in Phetchabun Province.
According to reports, after the additional charges are filed, investigators will summarize findings and submit the case to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for further legal proceedings. Interrogation of the testing center director and related parties revealed that despite denying the charges, they provided useful information for the investigation on multiple points. Reports also indicate that within the next week, the NACC chairperson may personally interrogate Sergeant Pichit, who has refused to cooperate during police questioning, pending NACC confirmation.
