On July 12, 2569 (2026), Udomsuk Police Station received a report of a fatal shooting on Soi Chelemphrachatirat Rama IX 30, Lane 28, Dokmai Subdistrict, Prawet District, Bangkok, in the evening. Officers led by Pol. Col. Chisanuphong Suriyananth, the station commander, arrived to investigate and found the body of Rathaphoomi (known as Feem), a 19-year-old, shot multiple times in the head, neck, and chest. A 36-year-old woman named Ms. Taan, the victim's girlfriend, was also shot in the chest, shoulder, and abdomen and was severely injured before being transported to the hospital.

According to the victim's 42-year-old mother, Waraporn, around 6 p.m. she was bathing a dog inside the house when her son went to pick up his girlfriend from work at a nearby factory. He parked the car beside the house with his girlfriend inside when a man named Golf, the ex-husband of Ms. Taan who was a soldier stationed in Ratchaburi Province, drove up in a black Mazda and parked in front. Without speaking, Golf drove away, but the son called his mother for advice. She told him to stay in the car for safety. Minutes later, she heard approximately 10 gunshots. When she went outside, she found her son dead in the vehicle and Ms. Taan critically wounded.

The shooter, Golf, is the ex-husband of Ms. Taan. The family believes he had harbored resentment since the woman began dating the victim. The mother expressed anguish that her 19-year-old son had barely begun his life and appealed to police to arrest and prosecute the perpetrator as quickly as possible.

U.S. Strikes Iran After Attack on Cyprus-Flagged Cargo Ship

The United States launched airstrikes against Iran early on July 12 in retaliation after Iran attacked a Cyprus-flagged cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, causing severe engine damage and at least one crew member missing. The UK Maritime Trade Operations center noted the ship was traveling along the Oman coast route to avoid Iranian territorial waters, and the crew was forced to abandon the burning vessel.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed multiple ships ignored warnings to correct their course and use approved shipping lanes, with one vessel receiving warning fire and halting operations. Iran stated the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed pending further announcements and threatened to consider additional strikes on enemy bases in the Middle East if faced with new attacks.

U.S. Central Command reported American forces struck approximately 140 targets, significantly more than in the previous two operations, focusing on missile and drone launch sites, ammunition depots, communications equipment, and other Iranian military facilities. The U.S. military said its operations degraded Iran's ability to attack civilians and commercial vessels transiting the strait freely.

This latest clash in the Persian Gulf occurred days after President Donald Trump suggested a temporary ceasefire agreement in the Iran conflict had ended. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted on social media that "Iran made the wrong choice and now they will pay the price."

Iran's parliament speaker and peace negotiation leader Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf countered: "The era of one-sided agreements has ended. We told you to keep your promises or pay a heavy price for the lesson."

Father Arrested for Sexual Assault of 12-Year-Old Daughter

Police in Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province, have arrested 40-year-old Bunyiem on charges of sexually assaulting his biological 12-year-old daughter. The arrest was made at a rented room in the Bang Wua Subdistrict area following a warrant issued after initial questioning. Paveena Hongskul, head of the Paveena Hongskul Foundation for Children and Women, worked with local representatives and police to pursue the case after being contacted by district officials.

The victim's grandmother, 50, disclosed that she first discovered the abuse on August 22 when she found the father in bed with his daughter, his hand under her blanket touching her genitals. When questioned, the girl tearfully recounted being touched and threatened not to tell her mother. On August 31, the father attempted to enter the grandmother's room and pull down the child's blanket, but the girl resisted and screamed for help, causing him to flee. The grandmother then brought the child to her workplace and subsequently arranged for her protection at a children's shelter in Chachoengsao.

The suspect initially gave partial admissions and denials, but police say their case is solid based on interviews with the child conducted by multidisciplinary teams and hospital medical findings. Investigators gathered additional evidence during questioning yesterday and filed charges of indecent assault on a child under 15 years old. The suspect will be brought before Chachoengsao Provincial Court for a detention hearing, and prosecutors plan to oppose bail.

Authorities have coordinated with the Justice Ministry's Financial Assistance Office for Victims and Defendants in Criminal Cases to issue documents enabling the victim to receive 50,000 baht in compensation. The Chachoengsao Provincial Welfare Office and the Children's Shelter director will provide psychological rehabilitation for both mother and child, along with additional welfare assistance and support through the Child Protection Fund.

Residents of Khloe Selo in Subdistrict Mae Sam Laep, Mae Hong Son Province, have united to excavate a temporary road on the Kom Muedo–Khloe Selo–Two-Sheet Sea of Mist route after being excluded from government loan programs. On July 12, Subdistrict Administrator Phong Phipatthana Mee Benjammasth praised the community's self-help efforts, noting that continuous rainfall prevented machinery deployment and made manual labor necessary. Without swift action, residents would be cut off from transport routes vital for daily supplies, agricultural goods, and government services.

The administrator further highlighted that marginal communities desperately need local infrastructure development but fail to meet the conditions for government loan programs. This exclusion leaves border populations starved of public investment and development, perpetuating cycles of hardship and blocking economic prospects available to residents of developed urban areas.

A mother bringing her child for a school exam got a terrible shock when bystanders suddenly yelled that a car was on fire. She rushed outside to find her own vehicle engulfed in flames. Residents quickly grabbed fire extinguishers and managed to control the blaze on the black Toyota Vios before it could spread further.

At noon on July 12, 2025, police from Muang Chachoengsao station received the report of a vehicle fire at a school in the district. They coordinated with municipal disaster relief and rescue teams to respond.

When officials arrived, they found residents already dousing the flames with fire extinguishers, successfully containing the fire in the black Toyota Vios with Chachoengsao plates before it consumed the entire vehicle.

Inspectors discovered a burnt electric fan and power bank near the rear console area, which they believe may be the fire's source. They noted the need for further investigation to determine the exact cause.

The car owner explained that he had driven from Bang Pakong district to bring his child for the exam. While waiting at school, he heard people shouting about the fire. At first he didn't realize it was his car, but when he rushed out to check, he found his own vehicle ablaze.

The owner said he is uncertain whether the power bank or electric fan caused the fire, since both were stored close together in the rear section. He suspects heat buildup inside the vehicle may have damaged the appliances and triggered the fire. After the incident, he contacted his insurance company to assess the damage.

Silpakorn University Demonstration School (Preschool and Primary) issued a statement on July 12, 2025, outlining its response to allegations of staff misconduct that circulated on social media. The school expressed regret and concern for all affected parties—students, parents, and staff—reaffirming that student safety, welfare, and trust are its highest priority.

The school confirmed it learned of the incident on July 9 and immediately suspended the accused staff member, prohibiting them from entering school grounds. On July 12, 2025, police in Muang Nakhon Sawan received a report of a suspicious object resembling a grenade left at the water meter in front of a rental house in Soi Pottisarn School, Muang District, Nakhon Sawan Province. Officers quickly responded and coordinated with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to investigate the area urgently.

At the scene, the object was found resting on a concrete ledge against a blue metal gate at the front of the rental property. It resembled a fragmentation grenade or hand-thrown explosive device. The location is a busy pedestrian and motorcycle thoroughfare. Officers immediately secured the area with warning tape and evacuated uninvolved persons to prevent danger.

EOD personnel conducted a thorough inspection before successfully collecting and removing the object from the area safely, much to the relief of residents in the neighborhood.

Police Lieutenant Porchai Khunpilukluadech, Deputy Chief of Muang Nakhon Sawan Police Station, revealed that investigators found the object at a rental house. The item has not yet been confirmed as an actual explosive. However, evidence suggests it may have belonged to a former tenant. Authorities are currently verifying the object's nature and investigating why it was placed at the house entrance.

Police will expedite evidence collection, review CCTV footage, and interview persons of interest for further legal action if the incident is found to violate laws or pose a public safety risk.

New Evidence Emerges in Senate Election Fraud Case

A Thai MP presented new evidence linking powerful politicians to vote-buying operations across five provinces, raising questions about why authorities have charged only eight people despite allegations involving 229 conspirators.

New Evidence Emerges in Senate Election Fraud Case
10h ago Khaosod

A parliamentary inquiry on July 9 focused on 'new evidence' presented by Phrisadth Wachrasindhu, a Thai Raksa Chart MP, that allegedly links powerful politicians and a systematic vote-buying operation spread across five provinces: Nakhon Phanom, Nong Bua Lamphu, Sing Buri, Sukhothai, and Suphan Buri. The evidence includes audio recordings of benefit negotiations, travel payments to candidates, money transfer trails, secret meetings, signed advance resignation letters, and instructions on testimony to the NACC and DSI. If proven true, this evidence clearly shows the case involves far more than the eight people the DSI has charged. Phrisadth's key questions are: Is this evidence in the formal case file, and have authorities conducted a complete investigation? If evidence exists that could expand the case but authorities fail to act, public doubt naturally follows. The Justice Minister confirmed authorities cannot override the DSI or prosecutors, as everything must follow legal procedure. While technically correct, the public still questions why a case with 229 alleged conspirators resulted in only eight charges. The case's decisive moment now lies with the NACC, which is reviewing evidence and documents to decide whether to indict before the Supreme Court. If charges are filed, the case enters court proceedings where all parties can mount a legal defense. However, if the NACC dismisses the case despite ongoing evidence revelations, it would raise questions about investigative standards and public trust in election integrity institutions. The Senate election fraud case is not measured by the amount of evidence or number of suspects, but by the courage of authorities to decide cases based on facts.

Deputy Prime Minister Yosachanan Wongsowasdee participated in Nakhon Phanom's annual Naga serpent festival on July 12, 2026, wearing traditional Sri Kothaburui clothing while dancing with locals and presiding over the ceremonial procession and offerings to the sacred serpent deity. The event attracted over 6,000 participants including senior government officials from seven ministries, former transport deputy ministers, provincial lawmakers, and the public, all joining in seven consecutive ritual dances that culminated in a shared performance between locals and tourists.

The festival, held annually from July 7-13 along the "Path of Faith" pilgrimage route, generates significant economic activity and tourism revenue for the province. The ceremony proceeded smoothly despite the typical rainy season, with clear skies blessing the celebration that showcases the region's rich cultural heritage and spiritual traditions.

A notable highlight was the Deputy PM's wearing of the Sri Kothaburui suit—an intricately hand-woven silk ensemble originating from the ancient Khmer kingdom in the Mekong River basin, featuring traditional indigo and red dyes combined with patterned silk reflecting prosperity and stability. The garment was crafted by local weavers in Tha Reua village, Nakhon Phanom, under a royal initiative championing local artisanal heritage and community pride.

MP Shooting Case Stalls, Deepening Crisis for Thai Security Agency

An investigation into the shooting of a Phichit Prachathai MP has stalled after arrests of suspected shooters and an ISOC officer, deepening a crisis over the security agency's undefined role and suspected involvement in extrajudicial killi

MP Shooting Case Stalls, Deepening Crisis for Thai Security Agency
10h ago Khaosod

The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) has become the target of harsh criticism, with demands from Wan Muhammadnoor Matha for its dissolution. The core problems stem from ISOC's ill-defined role, complex organizational structure, and overlapping duties with other agencies. In the sensitive three-southern-provinces area, marked by acute conflict and insurgent activity, ISOC wields considerable influence amid confusion over state policy direction—whether civilian or military leadership should prevail.

The assassination attempt on Phichit Prachathai MP Komalchai Liwamaor brought these tensions to a head. The shooting team used an ISOC vehicle issued by an ISOC officer, with government weapons. The suspects include former naval engineers, former rangers, and active-duty ISOC and navy personnel. This has deepened public doubt about ISOC's legitimacy and role.

Within a pattern of mysterious shooting deaths over years, authorities arrested five shooters and an ISOC officer and naval engineer who coordinated logistics and equipment. Yet the case stalled there—unable to reach those who gave the orders. This halt suggests either the investigation has hit a dead end or that uncovering the full truth would be too damaging.

Meanwhile, the opposition Phichit Prachathai party, led by Deputy Police General Anucha Saengkla, continues pressing the case. The party's experienced investigators may pursue leads independently. If the state cannot deliver justice, it compounds the damage: the government, investigators, and ISOC all appear complicit. Southern Thailand grows more suspicious, and calls for ISOC's accountability intensify.

Debate Over Abolishing Thailand's Internal Security Agency
10h ago Khaosod

During parliamentary committee review of the fiscal 2570 budget, a proposal emerged to disband a major government agency. Wan Muhamad Nor Matha, a committee advisor and prime ministerial consultant, called for abolishing the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), established in 1965, citing significant overlap with the National Security Council and the Royal Thai Police. He pointed to a pattern of ISOC recruiting personnel from other agencies and increasing their allowances, which drains the budget while the agency pursues non-core activities. Academics and the public have endorsed the proposal, arguing the agency's original anti-communist mission became redundant after the Cold War ended. However, after recent military coups, successive juntas have actually expanded ISOC's authority and embedded it across all government units, deepening its influence. The prime minister opposed abolition, asserting that ISOC has long been essential to national security policymaking. The army commander defended ISOC as a coordination hub integrating expert agencies beyond security matters, including humanitarian assistance. Yet ISOC has faced widespread public criticism over alleged rights violations, disinformation campaigns, and credible evidence linking personnel to the assassination of a Narathiwat MP, including the vehicles and weapons used. Nevertheless, investigations have stalled due to alleged interference and obstruction preventing full accountability. The editorial concludes that proposals to reform or restructure ISOC merit serious consideration; complete dissolution may not be necessary, but the agency's mandate must be reviewed, its functions streamlined to eliminate overlap, and its authority clearly restricted.
