Bangkok Monitors Chabad House Construction on Phra Athit Road

Bangkok authorities are coordinating with military and police to monitor the Chabad House operation on Phra Athit Road and Sukhumvit Soi 22 to ensure public order and safety, with strict orders that the building be used and operated according to law. Praphat Luangsirinnapa, director of the Public Works Office in Din Daeng District, addressed concerns about the expansion of the Chabad House—a community center and religious facility for Hasidic Jews—in Bangkok, particularly around Phra Athit Road in Phra Nakhon District and Sukhumvit Soi 22 in Khlong Toei District. The Public Works Office confirmed that the Sukhumvit Soi 22 construction project obtained initial building permission under permit number 360/2562 on December 23, 2019, with subsequent modifications filed under permits numbered 145/2567 on December 15, 2024, and 111/2569 on July 21, 2025, all in the name of the Jewish Association of Thailand. The project is currently under review according to the Building Control Act of 1979, with ongoing excavation work on the third basement level.

The planned structure is a five-story building with three basement levels covering 4,778 square meters of usable space and 37 parking spaces, intended for religious activities, offices, and parking. The Khlong Toei District office inspected the site on August 27, 2025, and found construction underway on the basement and foundation levels. On Phra Athit Road, the Phra Nakhon District office confirmed that the existing building received construction permission under permit P.13/2562 on June 20, 2019, as a five-story residential building. Officials verified the building is used as a residence with a hall for activities by occupants. Both districts have instructed strict compliance with building laws and regulations and will conduct continuous monitoring. For public safety and security concerns, the district offices are coordinating with police and relevant agencies to monitor the area continuously.
