Bomb Damages Solar Water Pump System in Yala
An explosion and arson damaged a solar-powered water pumping system in Yala's Mueang district on September 3, leaving ten solar panels destroyed and disrupting water supply to local residents.
Security officials and an explosive ordnance disposal team from Yala Provincial Police investigated the bombing of a solar water pumping system serving surface water sources in Lidol subdistrict, Mueang Yala district, after residents heard loud explosions around 11:30 pm on the night of September 3. Initial findings revealed ten solar panels damaged and the system's control cabinet deliberately burned. Officers collected evidence including red container fragments, vehicle tire treads, flashlight batteries, and tire and footprint marks for forensic analysis.
The attack directly impacts the water system, which supplies drinking water to villagers using solar energy. The project is managed by the Lidol Subdistrict Administrative Organization and received budget support in fiscal year 2022 from the Energy Conservation Promotion Fund under the Ministry of Energy. The damage affects both government property and local residents who depend on the water supply, requiring time to assess, repair, and restore normal operation.
Investigators are examining evidence and determining the cause of the bombing and arson, though no suspects or groups have yet been identified.
