Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF) has notified the Stock Exchange of Thailand that on September 14, 2026, it received an appeals court order regarding a civil case brought by Panya Tokkthong and nine others against the company over a black chin barb fish matter. The appeals court has ruled that the case may proceed as a class action lawsuit under criteria and scope determined by the court.
CPF states that this ruling is only a procedural determination on the case format, and the court has not yet ruled on the merits of whether the company is liable or must pay damages as the plaintiffs claim. A trial at the lower court level must follow. The company respects the court's order and the judicial process, and is prepared to present facts, evidence, and relevant law to the court.
The damages claimed by plaintiffs must be proven through legal procedure. Any financial impact on CPF will depend on the facts, scope of the class, the court's findings on the dispute, and the judgment or orders issued. Because the case is now in court proceedings, CPF cannot predict the outcome or comment in ways that might affect justice.
The appeals court accepted the class action from aquaculture and traditional fishing groups in Samut Songkhram Province claiming lost income over seven years (2017-2024), seeking damages of over 2.486 billion baht. Witness examinations by both sides are expected to begin in early 2027.
