Deputy Education Minister Akkanan Kitinunt made an unannounced visit to inspect school lunches at Ban Somwilai School in Udon Thani, hoping to see the real situation. He emphasized that children must receive quality, sufficient, and age-appropriate meals. On November 2, 2026, Deputy Education Minister Akkanan Kitinunt visited Ban Somwilai School to monitor the school lunch program without prior notice during a working visit to Thung Fon district, Udon Thani. He observed the menu, food preparation, and what students actually eat daily. Akkanan stated this visit was intentional to see the lunches firsthand, wanting to know what children eat, whether quality and quantity are sufficient, and if nutritional value is age-appropriate, as school lunches directly affect children's health and development. "I want to see for myself what children eat daily, not just reports or data sent to us, but the real thing - what they eat, whether it's appropriate in quality, cleanliness, and quantity for the number of students. Not informing in advance lets us see normal meal conditions and know the truth directly from the field," Akkanan said. He added that every student should have access to quality school lunches regardless of school size, as good food is fundamental to growth and learning. The Ministry of Education must continuously monitor this to ensure allocated budgets truly benefit students. Unannounced school visits also help hear problems and monitor operations to see real working conditions, using information to improve education management and enhance students' quality of life.
