Dr Waranya Ngangthuay, age 32, known as Doctor Lilly, has updated followers on how her breast cancer was detected. Many have wondered how she was diagnosed without feeling a lump, especially given her age and lack of risk factors. Doctor Lilly had no family history of breast cancer, never used hormone supplements, has one child whom she breastfed for 11 months, is not overweight, does not drink alcohol, and is under 35 years old.
She underwent a routine mammogram and ultrasound three weeks after stopping breastfeeding. The ultrasound revealed a BI-RADS 4B classification from a specialist, though no palpable mass was found—only microcalcifications, which she initially thought might be residual calcium from nursing. A repeat mammogram and ultrasound at Chulalongkorn Hospital confirmed the BI-RADS 4B finding and also showed enlarged lymph nodes that were too small and deep to feel on physical examination.
A mammogram-guided vacuum-assisted biopsy at Chulalongkorn Hospital confirmed the diagnosis as genuine cancer, though not in an early stage. Doctor Lilly is now under the care of Chulalongkorn Hospital's medical team and is undergoing additional testing to plan her treatment.
