PM Convenes Special Meeting On Water Management For Southern Thailand

Thailand's government launched a water management initiative focused on Hat Yai, the economic hub of the south, to prevent monsoon flooding through nine urgent infrastructure projects set for completion before year-end rains.

PM Convenes Special Meeting On Water Management For Southern Thailand
6h ago Khaosod

Prime Minister Anuthín Charnveerakul, serving as Interior Minister, chaired the second meeting of 2025 for the Public-Private Collaboration Committee for Economic Problem Solving (PPCC). Spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek announced this was a special session with one agenda item: preparing for and preventing floods in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, before the 2025 monsoon season.

The focus on Hat Yai reflects its status as southern Thailand's economic center, aimed at reassuring residents and businesses. The initiative will serve as a sandbox model for implementing water management solutions across southern provinces before year-end monsoon rains.

The Prime Minister stressed that integrated water management requires forward-looking planning to prevent the damage witnessed in 2024. He noted that budget allocation is not the main concern, as long-term flood prevention offers greater value than emergency response. However, every baht of public funds must be spent efficiently and effectively. Initial funding will come from agency budgets, with central reserves available only for urgent cases.

The PM emphasized the importance of timely information dissemination before and during flooding events, including evacuation plans and disaster relief operations, which must be clearly communicated and continuously reinforced. Such communication costs nothing but significantly reduces damage to affected populations.

The National Water Resources Office (NWRO) presented a master plan based on lessons learned from previous disasters, featuring nine urgent projects from Songkhla's PPCC aligned with upstream-midstream-downstream water management principles. Projects include pipe dredging, flood prevention equipment procurement, automated spillway gate installation, drainage capacity enhancement, and aquatic weed removal—all designed to be completed before monsoon season and strengthen flood defense in southern Thailand's key economic areas.

The meeting tasked Minister Phradon Parisnannantkul with coordinating with NWRO and the Budget Bureau to review plans and budgets reflecting the committee's recommendations. The Interior Ministry was designated as the lead agency to coordinate with relevant departments in preparing comprehensive flooding solutions for Hat Yai, integrating transportation and water management systems before presentation to Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn for inclusion in annual operational plans.

On Friday, June 26, 2569, Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatanyanuwat, Somdet Phra Sangkharat, descended to the ordination hall of Wat Rajbopit Satit Maha Simaram to preside over a ceremony granting land to a hospital named after him on the occasion of his 99th birthday. The ceremony was held to dedicate merit to the late Queen Sirikit and Princess Bajrakitiyabha. Vice Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanpraphase, Health Minister Pattana Prom-in, and officials attended.

The government approved renaming the Damnoen Sadoek Hospital in Ratchaburi Province as Somdet Phra Sangkharat Hospital (Ampormahathera). Deputy Secretary to the Prime Minister Yupa Taweewattanakij reported that this honor recognizes the hospital's humanitarian mission serving monks, the elderly, and the general public in Ratchaburi, the senior monk's birthplace.

The hospital requires expansion of medical and public health services to better serve an aging Thai population in line with the senior monk's vision. The Somdet Phra Sangkharat Foundation, with support from Wat Rajbopit and Buddhist devotees, has procured 7 rai and 34 square wagons of adjacent land to extend hospital facilities.

This initiative continues the legacy of the senior monk's predecessor, whose humanitarian works included founding another hospital in Ayutthaya Province. The Prime Minister's office will facilitate transfer of the land deed to the Finance Ministry to register it as state property for the hospital's use under Public Health Ministry supervision, honoring the monk's 99th birthday and in anticipation of his 100th birthday next year.

Woman Says She's Done After Husband's Infidelity Exposed

Woman ends marriage after husband's repeated infidelities exposed in viral video, saying she has forgiven him multiple times but this time will not return despite still loving him.

Woman Says She's Done After Husband's Infidelity Exposed
6h ago Khaosod

Bam, known as "Mia Luang," revealed that she previously begged her husband's mistress not to harm him after he cheated with a local woman. She says this time the pain is too much and she will not return to him.

The scandal erupted after a clip with 77 million views went viral online. In the video, Bam discovered her husband naked with another woman in bed, and the footage humorously highlighted a Doraemon pillow and a green water bottle on the pink mattress.

Recently, Bam opened up on the "Hone Kraeng" program (July 8, 2025), and when asked by host Num Krachai if she needed to prepare dog food, she firmly stated she would not return.

Bam explained she had tolerated infidelity multiple times and given him many chances. Previously, she had returned for their child's sake, but this time she was certain it was over.

Meanwhile, the other woman involved is reportedly planning to file a police report over the viral video posted online.

During the interview, Bam recounted her three-year relationship with Ball, saying she had never had a boyfriend for this long. They registered their marriage after their child was born because someone told her they could claim back payments, but Ball took the money—about 5,000 baht—immediately.

Bam shared a particularly painful incident when she was pregnant. Ball was communicating with another woman, though that woman didn't know he had a girlfriend. While Bam was giving birth at her family home in Nakhon Phanom, a man messaged Ball's Facebook asking if he knew someone who was sleeping with his wife. Ball initially denied it until the man contacted the woman's husband for proof, which he sent.

Ball threatened to confront this man at his factory, demanding to know where he lived. Bam then reached out to the man, begging him not to harm her boyfriend. She even had Ball raise his hands in a respectful gesture. "I was in so much pain, but I was more worried about him," Bam said. "I knew every time he contacted other women. I could sense when things changed."

Bam revealed she pleaded with the man through tears, asking him not to hurt or harm her husband, fearing their child would lose his father. When asked why she tolerated so much, Bam admitted it was because she loved him deeply. "Eating with him was the most delicious, hugging him was the warmest," she said, adding that she had even entrusted work projects to him.

Bam spoke tearfully about her love, saying she couldn't sleep on nights when Ball worked late shifts. When host Krachai asked if the look in her eyes showed she still loved him, Bam replied: "I love him, but I don't want to go back anymore. This time, forgiveness is over."

When asked what if he apologized, she firmly said: "No."

Krachai advised her to think carefully before speaking, but Bam was resolute: "I'm confident. There's no way I'm going back to how things were."

Luang Pho Sane Gatpunyyo, or Phra Kru Upkit Sarkun, was the abbot of Wat Phan Si in Uthai Thani. In 1977, his disciples sought to raise funds for permanent temple restoration by creating the first edition amulet coins—4,000 copper coins with a patina finish. The spherical coins feature a triangular phoenix pattern on top with a bail piercing, a half-relief portrait on the front with the name "Sane," and text reading "First Edition" on the back along with sacred script and the year "2520." The article also covers amulet coins from other revered monks including Luang Pu Chai of Wat Sedet in Samut Songkhram, Luang Pu Zone of Wat Nong Thum in Maha Sarakham, and Luang Pho Sin of Wat Makhuea Jaeng, each with distinctive designs and historical significance in their respective regions.

Woman's Warning: Daily Iced Tea Habit Led to Nearly 50 Kidney Stones

A woman developed nearly 50 kidney stones after drinking one to two glasses of iced tea daily for a decade while consuming minimal plain water, requiring multiple surgeries to remove them.

Woman's Warning: Daily Iced Tea Habit Led to Nearly 50 Kidney Stones
6h ago Khaosod

A young woman posted on Facebook about a serious health problem stemming from her daily iced tea consumption. After experiencing abdominal pain, she sought medical treatment at a hospital and discovered kidney stones, posting an image of 19 stones she initially passed.

In responding to comments, she explained that she drank one to two glasses of iced tea daily while consuming very little plain water over approximately 10 years. She then developed pain on her right ribcage and consulted a doctor, who diagnosed her with kidney stones. She requires three surgical procedures in total—the first surgery was not documented, but she posted photos from the second procedure and must wait another three months before her third surgery. Doctors informed her that she has approximately 50 kidney stones in total.

Regular consumption of iced tea can pose health risks because tea contains oxalic acid. When the body receives excessive amounts of this acid, it can cause oxalate crystals to accumulate in the kidneys, blocking the urinary tract and preventing the kidneys from eliminating waste normally, ultimately leading to kidney stone formation.

Minister Orders Probe Into Industrial Park Wastewater Pollution
6h ago Khaosod

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchat Chomklin has ordered the Pollution Control Department to investigate and monitor wastewater from an industrial estate flowing into the Dok Kraai reservoir in Rayong province, coordinating all agencies to control the situation and minimize public impact. Large numbers of dead aquatic animals, dark water with strong odors, and concern among local farmers prompted the action, with preliminary evidence suggesting industrial contaminated water mixed with rainwater during heavy downpours.

Dr. Surin Vorakit, director of the Pollution Control Department, revealed that officials collected water and sediment samples from five locations on July 3, 2569 (2026), spanning 8.5 kilometers from the incident source to the Dok Kraai reservoir for laboratory analysis to assess water quality and contaminant levels. Official results are expected within a week.

Initial tests showed high electrical conductivity, cloudy white water, and substantial sediment at the incident site, but water quality improved downstream with clearer water and lower conductivity readings. However, pH levels at the Dok Kraai reservoir measured 9.1, slightly above standard thresholds, requiring laboratory confirmation of pollutants or heavy metal residues before drawing final conclusions.

Dr. Surin noted that Rayong province convened meetings with relevant agencies and operators to expedite solutions. The industrial park's wastewater treatment company explained the cause as excessive use of discharged water for landscaping, compounded by leaking reservoirs and soil subsidence, causing water to escape the area. The company has since stopped irrigation, repaired leaks, and accelerated land recovery.

Measures to prevent illegal wastewater discharge include plans to install online water quality monitoring systems in high-risk factories within the industrial park. Outside the industrial park, barriers were constructed, wastewater was vacuumed, and sludge was dredged, with weekly water and soil quality monitoring ongoing until conditions normalize.

If laboratory results confirm wastewater discharge outside designated areas, relevant authorities will enforce strict legal action. The area must comply with environmental measures mandating zero discharge outside the premises and strict protected environmental zone regulations. The Pollution Control Department will revisit the site today (July 8, 2569) to conduct environmental quality checks and closely monitor remediation efforts while coordinating all agencies to rapidly restore water source quality and restore public confidence.

AIA Launches Premium Office Tower in Bangkok's Emerging CBD

AIA Thailand, Asia-Pacific's largest insurance group, launched AIA CONNECT on July 8, 2025—a premium Grade-A office building in the Ratchada-Rama 9 area, which is emerging as Bangkok's New Central Business District. The 34-story building offers approximately 53,500 square meters of leasable space and features a pedestrian tunnel connecting to the MRT Cultural Center Station. Designed under the concept of "A Home-inspired Workplace," it accommodates flexible hybrid work models with emphasis on communal areas, green spaces, and user amenities. The building targets international sustainability standards including LEED Gold for energy efficiency, WELL Gold for occupant wellness, and WiredScore Platinum for digital infrastructure.

Cushman & Wakefield's office leasing head Ockrit Pornpattanaithroj noted that office market competition has evolved beyond rent reductions and rent-free periods. Developers now pursue business partnerships with tenants—such as insurance companies offering employee benefits or technology firms providing IT solutions—to create long-term mutual relationships and ecosystem value. This "Flight to Quality" trend toward Grade-A buildings reflects the modern office market's shift from price-based competition to value-added partnerships that support tenant business growth. Bangkok's office market faces ongoing pressure with a 21.9% average vacancy rate, though the Sathorn district particularly struggles due to limited new supply.
