Former Election Official Files Assault Case Against Thonglo Suspect

Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, former Election Commission member, visited Police Hospital on September 8 to consult a forensic doctor and obtain medical documentation of injuries sustained when pushed to the ground outside Thonglo Police Station by Natthawut Wongniamto. Somchai displayed abrasions on his right knee and noted that the wounds were beginning to dry with minor scabbing and slight itching, though overall his condition was not concerning. He stated he had initially visited on Saturday, September 5, but the forensic doctor was unavailable during the weekend, prompting today's appointment to expedite the case proceedings.

Regarding claims that video footage was AI-edited, Somchai said he cannot verify this and directed inquiries to media outlets that filmed and distributed the footage. He noted that images came from multiple news camera crews present at the scene. When asked about the suspect's counter-allegation of a false report claim based on his team's documentation, Somchai presented media photographs showing the individual appeared to be using a phone during the incident rather than recording, and only later spoke with three police officers before they separated the two parties.

Somchai expressed heightened concern for his safety, noting he is uncertain whether further attacks may occur. He revealed the suspect's previous aggressive behavior, citing a June 25, 2566 incident in the Buddhamonthon Sai 2 housing estate where the suspect clashed with security staff over entry restrictions, used threatening language claiming connections to the prosecutor's office and police, returned later to threaten them again, and subsequently appeared with a firearm, causing the security officer to fear for his life and ultimately resign. Somchai noted that on June 28, 2566, the Office of the Prosecutor General clarified the suspect was actually a former prosecutor dismissed from service, not a current official.
