Thailand and Malaysia Boost Border Security Cooperation
Thailand and Malaysia agreed to strengthen border security cooperation and intelligence sharing during high-level talks in Kuala Lumpur, while Malaysia will continue facilitating peace dialogues for Thailand's southern provinces.
Thailand and Malaysia have agreed to strengthen cooperation on border development, security and the peace dialogue process for Thailand's southern border provinces, following a meeting between senior officials. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow held talks with the Director-General of Malaysia's National Security Council in Kuala Lumpur. The meeting built on earlier discussions between the Prime Ministers of both countries, with both sides committed to advancing bilateral cooperation.
The two nations will focus on developing Thai-Malaysian border areas to improve livelihoods and well-being of local communities while strengthening border security. This includes closer intelligence sharing and coordination on construction of security fences along the border to prevent transnational crime and other illegal activities. Officials also discussed cooperation on the peace dialogue process for Thailand's southern border provinces, with Malaysia continuing to serve as facilitator for the talks.
