Grief As Family Receives Body of Fire Victim Cartoon
Family grieves loss of Cartoon Semsiri, 26, a recent master's degree graduate killed in the Ladprao beer hall fire in Bangkok on July 12, with funeral rites scheduled for Saturday at Nong Bua Temple in Surin province.
The Potektung Foundation transported the body of Ms. Jawarii Semsiri, known as Cartoon, 26, one of the victims of the Ladprao beer hall fire in Bangkok on July 12, which claimed multiple lives and left many injured. When her body arrived at Nong Bua Temple in Surin's city district, grief-stricken family members, relatives, and close friends gathered to receive her. Her father, Chatri Semsiri, 53, collapsed to his knees in tears throughout the service, while her mother could not come to terms with the loss and required comfort from relatives. The family declined media interviews.
A close friend, Mae, recalled meeting Cartoon at her father's birthday celebration in June and had planned trips together to South Korea and Pattaya in the coming months. Mae described her as cheerful, kind, and beautiful. Chatri, still unable to accept his daughter's passing, stated that funeral rites will be held on Saturday. He and Cartoon spoke daily by phone, and she had been staying in a Bangkok condominium he purchased for her studies.
Cartoon was the family's only daughter, having recently completed her master's degree and was preparing to pursue a doctorate before the fire claimed her life. The family has set up a merit-making shrine at Nong Bua Temple in Surin, with the funeral service scheduled for Saturday, July 26.
