Chinese Family Demands Justice After Son Stabbed to Death
10 Aug Khaosod

On August 10 at 9 a.m., Zhao Haibing, the father of 20-year-old Zhao Qi, appeared outside Pattaya Provincial Court with family members and supporters who had traveled from China to follow the case and demand justice. Zhao Qi was stabbed to death in a rented room in Nai Chom Thian subdistrict, Sattahip district, Chon Buri province on the morning of August 8. The family displayed signs in Chinese, Thai, and English urging serious prosecution and asking the Thai government to ensure the safety and security of foreign nationals in Thailand.

Zhao Haibing stated through an interpreter that the family traveled to Thailand to manage their son's affairs and closely monitor the legal proceedings. He expressed profound grief over losing his 20-year-old son and hoped Thai justice would uncover the truth and provide justice for the victim. The family has questions about events before the victim went to the room, including information from the victim's friends that he had eaten with them for about three hours that evening before traveling to the room after midnight, during which a young woman had contacted him multiple times via phone and video call.

The family is requesting investigators thoroughly examine the victim's communications, including phone records, messages, and mobile phone data, as well as review CCTV footage and interview relevant witnesses to determine why the victim went to the room and what events preceded the incident. They are also asking police to investigate the 21-year-old woman who was in the room when the incident occurred, requesting authorities cross-reference phone data, messages, CCTV images, and witness statements to clarify the circumstances and uncover the truth.

Zhao Haibing stated that the family trusts Thailand as a nation governed by law and hopes to receive justice through the Thai legal system. He urged authorities to investigate every detail thoroughly and requested that society not accept one-sided information that could do injustice to the victim, demanding clear answers about what happened to his son before death. The case remains under police investigation as authorities gather evidence and witnesses to clarify the facts.

Egg Prices Surge 5 Baht Per Tray Amid Supply Shortage

Chicken egg prices in Nakhon Ratchasima have surged 5 baht per tray, with grade-zero eggs now selling at 150 baht, as retailers blame rumored exports abroad for domestic supply shortages.

Egg Prices Surge 5 Baht Per Tray Amid Supply Shortage
10 Aug Khaosod

Chicken egg prices in Nakhon Ratchasima have jumped roughly 5 baht per tray, creating both affordability and availability issues for consumers. A market survey found grade-zero eggs selling at 150 baht per tray, grade-one at 145 baht, grade-two at 140 baht, grade-three at 135 baht, and grade-four at 130 baht, though some retailers sourcing directly from farms have raised prices more modestly to retain regular customers.

Shop owner Tewin Wannying attributed the increase, which began about one to two months ago, to rumors that eggs are being exported abroad to countries facing shortages, leaving domestic supplies inadequate. The price hikes have forced him to prioritize sales to regular customers and restrict new customer purchases. While he acknowledged that exports could benefit local farmers by expanding sales channels, he emphasized the need for careful management to prevent harm to consumers at home. Wannying appealed to the government to verify whether these export rumors are accurate and, if true, ensure the situation does not negatively impact the domestic market.

Prime Minister Anutin Chulanont has clarified his recent social media post stating "I run my head into a wall every day, but the wall just gets higher and thicker. When asked directly who the message was aimed at, Anutin touched his forehead and replied "my head," then added that the post was meant to "teach myself and warn myself."

PM Orders Stricter Gun Control After School Shooting

Thailand's prime minister ordered stricter gun control measures and crackdowns on corruption following a school shooting in Nonthaburi that killed teachers and students.

PM Orders Stricter Gun Control After School Shooting
10 Aug Khaosod

On August 10, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister made merit offerings at Wat Rajbopit during the Buddhist Lent festival before calling security officials for an emergency meeting at the Interior Ministry. The gathering included Defense Minister Anudom Buntharnjcharoen, Deputy Police Commissioner Samrarn Nualma, and NACC Secretary-General Phoomvisai Kasemsouk to discuss policy responses to recent critical situations.

The meeting addressed nationwide gun control measures following a shooting at Tepsirin School in Nonthaburi the previous weekend, which resulted in deaths among teachers and students. Officials also reviewed progress on local government corruption investigations, which have identified 5,925 offenders and led to the removal of corrupt officials, some of whom held senior positions.

The PM instructed all relevant agencies—the Interior Ministry, Defense Ministry, National Police Office, security agencies, and the NACC—to coordinate and maximize enforcement of firearms possession and carrying regulations. He emphasized that anyone carrying a firearm in public places commits a crime and will be prosecuted, regardless of self-defense claims. The last gun-carrying permit was issued three years ago with a one-year validity, meaning no civilian currently holds legal authorization.

The PM stated that Deputy PM Anudit Nilepreprann is preparing amendments to firearms law, or if necessary, drafting entirely new legislation. Regarding personnel transfers in the military and police, the PM dismissed speculation about cross-provincial movements for the National Security Council secretary-general, saying officials discussed only timelines and scheduling, not individual assignments.

Concerning local government exam corruption, the PM confirmed that authorities will prosecute offenders and nullify test results that do not match published scores, vowing to pursue all wrongdoers without exception.

Thailand Registers Two Ratchaburi Agricultural Products as Geographic Indicators

Thailand's Intellectual Property Department registered two Ratchaburi agricultural products—Pan Damnoen Lime and Nam Dok Mai Ratchaburi Mango—as Geographic Indicators, boosting their combined value to 8.5 billion baht and opening new export

Thailand Registers Two Ratchaburi Agricultural Products as Geographic Indicators
10 Aug Khaosod

The Intellectual Property Department has registered "Pan Damnoen Lime" and "Nam Dok Mai Ratchaburi Mango" as new Geographic Indication (GI) products, driving forward the value of distinctive agricultural goods by 8.5 billion baht. Ormorn Sauptaveetharm, director-general of the Intellectual Property Department, announced that the department has successfully registered both "Pan Damnoen Lime" and "Nam Dok Mai Ratchaburi Mango" as new GI products for Ratchaburi province, reinforcing the quality and distinctive identity of local agricultural goods while opening new trading opportunities, raising product value, and generating income for farmers and communities.

The department is implementing the policy of Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supakij Sutthampun, which aims to use intellectual property as a tool to increase Thai product value, create trading opportunities, and boost farmer income. The strategy focuses on accelerating GI utilization to elevate high-value agricultural products and strengthen competitiveness in global markets.

Ratchaburi province is a major agricultural production hub known for product quality, reputation, and distinctive identity. With the registration of two additional GI products, Ratchaburi now holds a total of eight GI-registered items: Dragon Fruit Ratchaburi, Bang Chai Chili, Chai Por Photaram, Bang Pae Mud Crab, Ban Ka Pineapple, Ratchaburi Sweet Coconut, Pan Damnoen Lime, and Nam Dok Mai Ratchaburi Mango. These eight products generate combined economic value exceeding 8,539 million baht annually in 2025.

"Pan Damnoen Lime" is characterized by round, flat-bottomed fruit with thin peel, smooth skin, fragrant aroma, clear white flesh, few seeds, and abundant juice with a tart but non-bitter taste. The fruit benefits from soil conditions and water sources in the Mae Klong watershed area, combined with traditional local cultivation knowledge. It currently generates approximately 716 million baht in annual economic value.

"Nam Dok Mai Ratchaburi Mango" encompasses the Golden and Nam Dok Mai Grade 4 varieties, distinguished by elongated fruit, dense and fine flesh, fiber-free texture, sweet taste, and fragrant aroma. It is popular both domestically and internationally, particularly in China, Japan, South Korea, the Middle East, and the European Union, currently generating approximately 166 million baht in annual economic value.

Ormorn stated that GI registration protects the rights of community producers, builds consumer confidence in product quality and origin, and opens pathways for product development and value addition. The Intellectual Property Department will collaborate with the province and relevant agencies to develop GI utilization throughout the value chain—from maintaining standards, building brands, and developing products to connecting with food industries, heritage tourism, and creative businesses—while expanding both domestic and international markets to create stable income and strengthen community economic development in the long term.

Man accused of killing girlfriend found dead days laterLegacyA man wanted over the fatal shooting of his girlfriend has committed suicide at the same house where the killing happened, in tambon Tha Wang, Muang district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province, ending a days-long manhunt, police said. Officers from Muang Nakhon Si Thammarat police station were first called to the single-storey concrete house on the morning of August 7, after 34 year old Sudaporn was found dead on her bed, shot two to three times in the head. Police initially could not confirm the type of firearm used, though spent cartridge cases were recovered beside the bed as evidence. The man identified as the gunman, 33 year old Kittipat, known as Top, fled the scene on a motorcycle as police began searching for him. Investigators later confirmed the weapon was a 9mm pistol. Gun used in the shooting | Photo via Khaosod According to initial inquiries, Sudaporn and Kittipat had been dating for about a month before the shooting. Kittipat’s mother, who was in the house at the time, told police she heard two to three gunshots from the bedroom before her son rushed out and rode off on his motorcycle. Neighbours said the couple had argued two to three days earlier but had otherwise seemed normal, and that gunshots were then heard on the morning of the shooting. Police said they had not established a motive at that stage and were negotiating with Kittipat’s relatives to persuade him to surrender. Investigators later said they believed jealousy was behind the shooting, and suspected Kittipat had caught Sudaporn talking to another man on the phone. Earlier today, Kittipat returned to the house, according to a Channel 7 News report. He found the front gate locked, with offerings that had been placed for Sudaporn laid out nearby. Police said he is believed to have been under significant stress before he shot himself outside the house with the same gun. A spent cartridge case was found at the scene. Politician Urges Election Chief to Prosecute Senate Case Fairly

Democrat MP Chuan Leekpai warned the Election Commission to rule fairly on a Senate selection dispute case, saying independent bodies risk bias when their own members were appointed through a flawed system.

10 Aug Khaosod

Chuan Leekpai, a Democratic Party list member of parliament, has publicly criticized the cycle of corruption spreading through government agencies and independent organizations. In a special address at the opening of the National Art Exhibition and International Art Exchange 2026 on August 8, Chuan argued that politics, economics, and society must uphold quality standards, otherwise people suffer. He highlighted the hypocrisy where civil servants purchase positions for hundreds of thousands of baht to earn tens of thousands annually, while politicians who spend millions buying votes view politics as a profit-driven business, perpetuating corruption that has spread to government agencies and independent bodies.

Chuan expressed concern about interference in the Senate selection process, noting that the Senate election dispute case demonstrates problems within independent organizations. He questioned whether the Election Commission, whose members were appointed by the current Senate—which many view as emerging from a rigged system—would dare make independent rulings. However, Chuan stated he still believes good people exist in society and is writing a letter to encourage the Election Commission chairman to uphold what is right and wrong fairly.

Regarding repaying political debts, Chuan suggested that if someone gains a position through another's help, they should repay that debt through proper customs like attending the person's funeral when they pass away, rather than compromising justice by making wrong decisions right or right decisions wrong simply to keep corrupt politicians in power.
