Man Shot Dead in Field; Police Hunt Gunman in Phetchaburi
A former postal worker was shot dead in a rice field in Phetchaburi on September 16, with police searching for the gunman who fired multiple shots to his head; the motive remains unclear.
Phetchaburi police are hunting a gunman who shot and killed a former postal worker in a rice field. The victim's father, 78, said his son had quit his postal job about seven months ago. Around 10:00 a.m., the son rode his motorcycle out to check water levels in a rice field about 600 meters from their home, then heard gunshots and found his son lying face-down with a fatal head wound.
Officers from Muang Phetchaburi Police Station, along with rescue workers, responded to the scene at 11:00 a.m. on September 16. The body was found in a rice field in Moo 7, Nong Kanan Subdistrict, with a gunshot wound to the head. A white Honda motorcycle without license plates was found overturned nearby, along with a pair of canvas shoes and muddy footprints leading from the scene.
Initial investigation suggests the suspect followed the victim to the field and shot him, then fired multiple additional rounds to the head. Police believe the shooting was deliberate but the motive remains unclear, as the father said his son had no known conflicts with anyone. Investigators are gathering evidence and witnesses to track down the gunman and pursue legal action. The body has been taken to the hospital pending release to the family for religious rites.
