Interior Ministry Sets 7-Day Deadline in Chinese Nominee Business Case

Thai authorities set a seven-day deadline to investigate Chinese-owned businesses using Thai nominees in Bangkok's Huay Khwang area, with the Deputy Interior Minister vowing legal action against anyone involved in the scheme.

Interior Ministry Sets 7-Day Deadline in Chinese Nominee Business Case
11 Aug Khaosod

The Interior Ministry has set a seven-day deadline for progress in investigating nominee-held Chinese capital businesses in the Huay Khwang area. Deputy Interior Minister Palpeer Suwannchuay insisted that anyone found to be involved will face full legal action, and visited the Huay Khwang police station to give additional testimony.

The case began when the Interior Ministry inspected hotel operators using nominee structures in Huay Khwang. A man named "Poh," who claims to be a local business manager, then sought clearance from Deputy Interior Minister Palpeer Suwannchuay on August 9.

On August 11 at 12:45 p.m., Palpeer arrived at Huay Khwang police station to provide additional clarification on the fieldwork conducted with multiple agencies including the Department of Local Administration, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Labor, the Special Cases Investigation Bureau, and local police. During the inspection, "Poh" called Palpeer, who then played the recorded conversation for all agencies present to determine which departments were mentioned and whether his own ministry was implicated. The conversation reportedly detailed payment arrangements—whether monthly or only when problems occurred.

Palpeer stated that the inspections found the hotels were not registered with the Ministry of Commerce, foreign workers were not reported to the Ministry of Labor, and the entire Huay Khwang area likely has similar violations. The ministry received complaints from citizens and members of parliament from the People's Party, prompting the investigation to protect Thai business operators who pay taxes legally and prevent foreigners from unfairly competing or illegally holding land.

When asked why the ministry only recently began investigating nominee business operations that have existed for years, Palpeer explained that he had only served as Deputy Interior Minister for three months and was unaware of previous officials' actions, preferring not to "air dirty laundry."

However, upon taking office, he felt compelled to act. When "Poh's" phone call mentioned units connected to the National Police Office, Palpeer informed Deputy National Police Commander Samran Nualma to conduct an internal investigation.

Palpeer noted that Chinese and foreign capital typically operates through cooperating government officials, lawyers, and accounting firms. While Thai nationals and private companies—accounting and law firms—facilitate foreign investment, he stopped short of confirming whether government officials were involved, but vowed that if evidence surfaces, legal action would follow.

The fieldwork will not stop at Huay Khwang. Palpeer aims to map the entire network of accounting firms, law firms, and real estate companies involved, and promised zero tolerance for any officials implicated.

For foreign business operators who obtained Thai citizenship, investigations will also examine money flows to determine if grey money or scammer funds are involved; such assets can be seized immediately. However, for non-Thai citizens conducting illegal business and transferring money abroad, enforcement is difficult unless they hold Thai nationality.

Thailand Ranks Among World's Worst for School Bullying
11 Aug Khaosod

The Department of Medical Sciences, through the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health, has revealed that bullying behavior is becoming increasingly severe and varied, with Thailand ranking among the world's top countries for this issue. Research shows schools are the most common location for bullying, which significantly affects children's physical and psychological development. Dr. Thaninthorn Wetchaphianan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Medical Sciences, defines bullying as intentional behavior designed to make others feel embarrassed, hurt, or distressed, with the perpetrator experiencing satisfaction from the act. Such behavior often stems from mental instability, inferiority complexes, family problems, environmental factors, emotional skill deficits, and previous victimization.

Bullying is categorized into four main types: physical, verbal, social, and cyberbullying. All forms impact children across all age groups, particularly during critical developmental periods. While bullying may seem minor to adults, it can cause lasting psychological wounds manifested through behavioral changes such as school avoidance, depression, and unhappiness. Parents and guardians are encouraged to maintain regular conversations with children to create a safe environment for disclosure and to intervene when warning signs appear.

Dr. Akhorn Chaiweerawattana, Director of the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health, explains that bullying occurs at all ages with different characteristics. Younger children experience physical bullying, from mild forms like teasing to severe ones like assault. Preschoolers often face verbal bullying involving mockery of parents' names, appearance, or skin color. Teenagers, during their identity-formation stage, commonly encounter bullying related to personality, social status, values, and possessions, as well as social exclusion and rumor-spreading. Cyberbullying among teenagers is particularly concerning, involving false information dissemination, unauthorized image or video sharing, and crude online comments, which may violate personal data protection laws.

Parents must give special attention to children's online activities, as these problems affect everyone, not just children. All individuals have the right to be protected from bullying, and society must take this issue seriously to safeguard children's physical and mental health.

Thai Capital Profit Rises 24% in Q2

Thai Capital reported a 24% jump in Q2 net profit to 2.6 billion baht, driven by rising dividend income and improved profit-sharing from associated companies, while the investment holding firm also approved a 7.5 billion baht share buyback

Thai Capital Profit Rises 24% in Q2
11 Aug Khaosod

Thai Capital (TCAP) posted strong Q2 2569 net profit of 2,642 million baht, a 519 million baht or 24.45% increase from the previous quarter, demonstrating the company's capability to generate solid investment returns and efficiently manage its business portfolio as a leading investment holding company. Growth was driven by rising non-interest income, including dividend revenue and increased profit sharing from associated companies reflecting their operational performance, though net interest income declined slightly due to cautious lending practices.

For the first half of 2569, TCAP's net profit totaled 4,765 million baht, up 988 million baht or 26.16% from the same period last year. This was supported by dividend income, insurance business revenue, and higher profit sharing from partners, combined with a significant decrease in expected credit loss provisions, reflecting sustained improvement in asset quality despite a minor decline in net interest income from automobile lease-purchase credit slowdown.

The company's board approved a share buyback program for financial management purposes, with a budget ceiling of 7.5 billion baht and up to 104.86 million shares representing no more than 10% of all issued shares. The buyback will be conducted through the Stock Exchange of Thailand between August 17, 2569 and February 16, 2570 to improve capital efficiency, create shareholder value, and reaffirm confidence in TCAP's long-term growth potential as a "Most Trusted Investment Holding Company" committed to delivering sustainable returns.

For the second half of 2569, TCAP will continue operating with disciplined investment standards and prudent risk management while leveraging business potential and pursuing investment opportunities to strengthen its portfolio and support quality long-term growth alongside optimal capital structure management.

Woman's Snoring Led to Sudden Kidney Failure

A Thai woman's sudden kidney failure was linked to sleep apnea from snoring, which elevated her blood pressure dangerously high; doctors discovered the airway obstruction after she was admitted to Sakon Nakhon Hospital requiring emergency d

Woman's Snoring Led to Sudden Kidney Failure
11 Aug Khaosod

On August 11, 2026, TikTok user @suda_zy posted a cautionary account describing how dizziness led to sudden acute kidney failure. While some might assume high salt intake was the culprit, the first question her doctor asked was whether she had consumed traditional herbal remedies or tonics, as kidney damage was severe and her blood had become heavily acidic. She denied taking herbal medicines, reporting only B vitamins for numbness and magnesium tablets for sleep issues, not continuously. Her dizziness escalated until her blood pressure reached 212, causing her body's systems to collapse. She was admitted to Sakon Nakhon Hospital and later transferred to the provincial hospital after initial treatment at a district hospital failed to improve her condition. Doctors ordered temporary dialysis as kidney function had failed, though they couldn't yet determine if it was acute or chronic due to her never having sought medical check-ups before. Brain scans, chest X-rays, and lung ultrasounds were conducted. Her primary concern throughout her emergency care was her 71-year-old mother, worrying constantly about how her mother would manage if something happened to her. Her mother cared for her completely, even struggling to walk, while also wiping her body, managing her catheter, and fanning her during the hot first night in a shared room without air conditioning. Blood pressure checks were taken every 15 minutes, but readings remained above 190. After medication adjustments on the second day, her pressure dropped to 135 and her kidneys responded well. The doctor asked if she snored, noting that her breathlessness indicated airway obstruction during sleep, which elevates blood pressure and strains kidney function. She was advised to undergo a separate sleep study. Doctors recommended she rest at home to see if her kidney function would recover, as the failure was acute. Recovery would be monitored over two weeks to determine if dialysis would become necessary. Back home, she can only eat egg whites initially and must use a cane to walk. She hopes her kidney values will improve so she can care for her mother long-term. She thanked TikTok for allowing her to share her story.

Cabinet Orders 300 Agencies to Reset Passwords, Audit 30,000 Systems
11 Aug Khaosod

On August 11, 2025, government spokesman Ratchada Thanadirek announced Cabinet approval of measures to prevent personal data breaches resulting from compromised user account credentials. The Cabinet endorsed the use of multi-factor authentication (MFA)—such as Digital Identity (ThaID) or other secure verification methods—as recommended by the National Cybersecurity Committee, to strengthen personal data protection and systematically reduce cyber threats across the public sector.

The Cabinet approved three specific measures: first, a forced password reset requiring civil servants and officials across more than 300 government agencies to change passwords immediately, preventing malicious actors from exploiting leaked databases. Second, a system cleansing initiative mandating all ministries and 300 agencies to audit over 30,000 information systems within 15 days, permanently deactivating obsolete or abandoned systems' backend access, as many agencies had closed front-end access while leaving backend systems vulnerable. Third, the government will implement multi-factor authentication across all public sector systems. The National Cybersecurity Committee has been authorized to coordinate with both public and private sector organizations to execute these directives under the Cybersecurity Act of 2019.

At the scene, officers found a white Mercedes-Benz registered in Bangkok with severe damage to the front fender, hood, and engine compartment. The vehicle's roof was crushed and it was left blocking the center of the road. Ms. Anantanya (surname withheld), 38, the driver, sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for emergency care.

Nearby, the Talad Luang District Office garbage truck was parked in the left lane and was struck at the rear, sustaining damage. Mr. Gong (surname withheld), 44, was operating the garbage truck. Additionally, a motorcycle ridden by Mr. Noprat (surname withheld), 30, sustained minor damage, though neither occupant was injured. Both vehicle operators proceeded to file daily reports as evidence.

Initial investigation revealed that Mr. Noprat was riding his motorcycle along Phoem Ratchachonnani Road in the parallel lanes, leftmost lane, when approximately 20 meters before the collision point, the Mercedes suddenly struck the motorcycle's exhaust pipe with considerable force. The impact caused the motorcycle damage and the Mercedes lost control, subsequently colliding with the rear of the garbage truck.

Investigating officers have accepted the complaint and will review closed-circuit camera footage. The Mercedes driver will be summoned for questioning to proceed with legal proceedings.

PM Denies Political Motive in Muay Thai Outing With Srettha
11 Aug Khaosod

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed reporters on August 11, 2025 at Government House regarding his attendance at Rajadamnern Stadium on August 8 alongside former PM Srettha Thavisin. He stressed there was no political discussion during the outing, which he characterized as an opportunity to observe how muay thai has evolved from purely gambling-focused entertainment into a soft power attraction and showcase of Thai art for tourists. Anutin praised the improved atmosphere and the high attendance of genuine foreign tourists, noting it demonstrates positive changes that could boost tourism to Thailand.

The PM indicated that event organizers have proposed expanding similar muay thai events to major tourist destinations including Phuket, Pattaya, Chonburi, and Chiang Mai, contingent on support from tourism and sports authorities—a proposal he said he welcomed. When asked whether the outing related to the Monaco Declaration, he dismissed the question with humor. Anutin emphasized that he and Srettha have known each other since their days studying abroad together and have maintained a longstanding personal relationship, stressing that the muay thai event was simply a social gathering with no political dimensions whatsoever.

On August 11, 2026, three officers from Nakhon Phanom Police Station—Deputy Sub-Lieutenant Bua Saensri, Sub-Lieutenant Krit Bokaew, and Police Sergeant Wimol Dathumma—responded to a report of a woman attempting to jump from a bridge spanning the Nakhon Phanom River near Nong Wai Dam in Muang District. While stationed at a checkpoint about 1 kilometer away, officers received an alert and rushed to the scene, where they found a woman sitting on the bridge railing in a precarious position. A good Samaritan was already attempting to calm her. Police asked the man to step back, then used conversation to distract the woman while Sub-Lieutenant Krit employed tactical positioning to swiftly and safely pull her down. The woman was identified as 25-year-old Ms. Anocha. Investigation revealed she had taken a taxi from Khon Kaen city before climbing onto the bridge. After the incident, she asked police to call someone claiming to be her son, but the phone number proved to be incorrect and unknown to her. Officers transported her to Nakhon Phanom Hospital for medical evaluation and are assisting in locating relatives for further care.
