Mother of Suspect Dies After Falling Into Police Station Well
A mother of a suspect died after falling into an unguarded well at Ban Ka Police Station in Ratchaburi. Forensic officers found the well 2.6 meters deep with no safety barriers, and police temporarily blocked the edge with water jars. The provincial police chief ordered safety upgrades to be completed within a week and announced a fact‑finding committee.
Officers coordinated with the Ban Ka Subdistrict Administrative Organization fire truck and rescue units after relatives reported seeing the victim’s shoes in the well. They explained that police checkpoints were set up under orders from the Deputy National Police Chief and were being carried out at all 16 police stations in Ratchaburi. When a missing person was reported, officers returned to conduct the operation and coordinated with relevant agencies, confirming that a full timeline of events had been recorded.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Phallon Suriyakul na Ayutthaya announced the formation of a fact‑finding committee and said safety measures inside the station needed upgrading, including lighting — which had failed during the rain‑soaked incident — and installing railings around the well or filling it in. He set a seven‑day deadline for the improvements and said police would meet with the victim’s family to hear their demands and discuss appropriate compensation. He later spoke with Ban Ka Subdistrict Mayor Somboat Puangjaengngam, the victim’s elder brother, and her son Athibhat, agreeing to consider the family’s suggestions for site improvements and to look after the victim’s husband, who now lives alone, and the son who works in Nonthaburi Province. The mayor urged the station to accelerate safety upgrades to prevent a repeat, while the son said he had seen only one uniformed officer at the scene and was unaware of any plainclothes personnel present.
