Off-Duty Officer's Gun Kills Mother in Phuket Accident

A 49-year-old woman was fatally shot in the head on September 24 in Muang District, Phuket, after an off-duty officer named Sakaln Krainara accidentally discharged his Glock 19 service pistol while working the slide. The officer had not realized a 9-millimeter round was still chambered, and when the weapon fired, the bullet struck his mother in the head. She was rushed to Mission Hospital Phuket and later transferred to Vachira Hospital Phuket, where she died from her injuries.
Police arrived at the scene around 9:20 p.m. on September 24 following an emergency call. Officers including Captain Chatree Chugaew, commander of Muang District Police, worked with rescue teams and hospital staff to respond. Paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive the victim.
Following the incident, the Phuket Provincial Evidence and Forensics Unit attended the scene to collect evidence, including the firearm and ammunition. The off-duty officer was taken into custody and transported to Muang District Police Station for detailed questioning and case proceedings.
