Police Catch Gold Shop Robber Within Two Hours
Police arrested a 33-year-old man within two hours of a gold necklace robbery at a Bangkok shop and recovered the stolen item, leading authorities to recommend digital security systems for jewelry stores.
Police in Huamark have arrested a man suspected of snatching a gold necklace from Yaowarat Gold Shop on Ramkhamhaeng 53 Road and recovered the stolen item within two hours of the incident. Officers have also advised shop owners to install digital door systems for better security.
On July 1, 2026, at 4:51 p.m., Huamark Police Station received a report of a robbery at Yaowarat Gold Shop, Ramkhamhaeng 53 branch in Huamark district, Bang Kapi, Bangkok. The suspect, a man aged 20-30 wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and black pants, entered the shop posing as a customer and asked to view a one-baht gold necklace. When the staff retrieved the necklace, the suspect snatched it and fled through a side door, escaping on a waiting motorcycle.
After the incident, investigators reviewed CCTV footage and traced the suspect to a motorcycle repair shop near Nakhom Mint Road 42, Soi 15. Officers apprehended the suspect, identified as Prawit Rojranpanya, 33 years old, and recovered the stolen gold necklace. The arrest was made at approximately 6:50 p.m. the same day, less than two hours after the robbery.
During questioning, Prawit confessed that he chose this shop because he observed the entrance and exit were convenient, allowing him to flee and board the motorcycle quickly. Police charged him with robbery using a motor vehicle.
Authorities urged gold shop operators to enhance security measures by installing digital door systems to control entry and exit, combined with CCTV surveillance and emergency alert systems, to reduce the risk of robbery and theft.
