Rayong Reservoir Facing Imminent Collapse, Mass Evacuation Ordered
Authorities in Rayong ordered immediate evacuation as the Khao Chuk Dam faces imminent collapse with damaged spillway structures, threatening multiple subdistricts in Kaeng and Khao Chamao districts.
On September 28, the Thung Khwai Kin Subdistrict Municipality posted an urgent alert on Facebook warning residents that the Khlong Raiok reservoir (Khao Chuk Dam) is about to break, with spillway structures damaged. Residents are ordered to evacuate immediately within one hour. The alert states that Thung Khwai Kin subdistrict in Kaeng district and Nam Pen subdistrict in Khao Chamao district will face severe impact, affecting Khong Din and Khlong Pun subdistricts as well. Designated evacuation centers include Chumnumsai Temple, Chamnan Samakkhi Withaya School, and Noen Sombun Temple. The Kaeng District Agricultural Office indicated the primary water channel and surrounding low-lying areas, urging residents to move valuables to higher ground immediately.
