Rayong Woman Hasn't Cut Hair in 10 Years, Grows Locks Nearly Five Feet Long
A 65-year-old Rayong social worker has grown her hair nearly 1.5 metres long over the past decade, attributing the uncut locks to beliefs about fortune after surviving serious accidents including a near-fatal car crash.
A 65-year-old social worker and volunteer named Suaree Nicherr from Rayong has become the talk of the town after growing her hair to nearly 1.5 metres long without cutting it for almost 10 years. She attributes the practice to a personal belief in fortune and fate, having survived multiple life-threatening accidents, including a severe car crash at age 29 that required over 300 stitches. When measured by officials from the front hairline to the tip of her back hair, her locks reached 1 metre 45 centimetres in length.
Suaree explains that she keeps her hair bundled on top of her head when going out for outdoor volunteer work, leading people to often mistake it for a wig. The practice went largely unnoticed until close friends discovered the truth and spread word by mouth, causing local interest. Maintaining such long hair proves challenging, requiring constant vigilance against dust and rain to keep it clean. Currently, the longest-haired woman in Thailand is a 43-year-old from Chachoengsao province who has grown her hair for over 20 years, measuring 2 metres from scalp to floor, earning her the nickname "Thailand's Rapunzel."
