Sergeant Phichit Held on Exam Fraud Charges
Three people including a local government official have been arrested on corruption charges related to an examination fraud scheme, with one suspect surrendering to police in Bangkok on Wednesday.
Sergeant Phichit, accused of fraud in civil service exams conducted by the Department of Local Administration (DLA), Ministry of Interior, has been taken into custody at the Crime Suppression Division after turning himself in. Officers are currently conducting interrogation. On July 13, 2026, police reported progress in the exam fraud case involving DLA officials. After the DLA filed a complaint with the Crime Suppression Division requesting prosecution of those involved, Police Deputy Commander Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritsada Kanjanalong, Crime Suppression Commander Pol. Lt. Gen. Nattasak Chaowapasakhai, and Crime Suppression Division Chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Pattanasak Bupphasuwan ordered investigators to gather evidence and request arrest warrants for the suspects. Following evidence of exam manipulation, the Criminal Court approved three arrest warrants for suspects identified as: 1. Winn, an advisor at the Department of Agricultural Extension, Kasetsart University, arrested at Nong Khai Immigration; 2. Satporn (Winn's sister), arrested within a university; and 3. Sergeant Major Phichit, director of strategic planning and budget at Wichian Buri Municipality, Phetchabun Province. All three face three charges: bribery and corruption, destruction or concealment of documents belonging to others, and violations of the Computer Crime Act for entering false data into a system. Two suspects—Winn and Satporn—have been arrested and are in custody at the Crime Suppression Division. The third suspect, Sergeant Major Phichit, recently arrived at the Crime Suppression Division and is currently undergoing interrogation.
