A 26-year-old driver in Nakhon Ratchasima lost control of his sedan in heavy rain on September 11, striking a motorcycle and killing both riders—a husband and wife who worked as street food vendors. Dashcam footage captured the Suzuki Swift skidding through standing water on Highway 205 near Nakhon Ratchasima's Public Works Division office at 2:26 a.m., hydroplaning across lanes and nearly tipping before the driver regained control. At 3:33 a.m., the same vehicle struck a motorcycle carrying the couple. Rescuers found a 30-year-old woman dead at the scene and her 38-year-old husband critically injured. The husband was rushed to Maha Rachana Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital but died from his injuries shortly after. Friends identified the couple as chicken rice vendors who, every morning around 3:00 a.m., traveled by motorcycle to market to buy ingredients for their business. The driver, Phuvanun Taphannakk, 26, told Muang Nakhon Ratchasima Police that heavy rain and wet roads caused him to lose traction and lose control of the vehicle before striking the motorcycle. Police are reviewing dashcam and CCTV footage and gathering evidence for criminal prosecution.
