Storied Noodle Shop Debuts Fiery Stir-Fried Menu After 7 Years
Beloved boat noodle chain Thong Samit debuts fiery stir-fried noodle dishes for the first time in seven years, featuring basil egg noodles and crispy thin noodles with bold seasoning at The Mall Ngamwongwan.
Office workers lucky enough to be near a shopping mall have a convenient escape from evening traffic. Rather than enduring a frustrating commute, they can pop into the mall and hunt for tasty food to lift their spirits.
These days, The Mall Ngamwongwan has become a regular destination, with plenty of reliable street food options that rival other shopping districts.
Recently, I visited the popular boat noodle restaurant Thong Samit after spotting new menu items on their signboard. I was curious because since opening, they had kept the same menu for years, yet customers never seemed to tire of it. Despite bowls ranging from a hundred to over five hundred baht, fans packed every branch consistently. Now the restaurant is thriving.
When I sat down, the staff member proudly introduced the new menu: "This is the first time in seven years." The new offerings focus on stir-fried noodles in two styles: basil egg noodles and crispy thin noodles tossed with intense heat. Every plate comes fresh off the wok with a rich, fragrant pan aroma. The signature fiery seasoning is bold and spicy in true Thong Samit fashion.
Both dishes are the same price with two protein options: 285 baht with Kurobota pork or 295 baht with marbled beef.
I went with a friend and ordered the basil pork noodles to try the new menu, but also got bowls of their classic signature boat noodles to compare.
Both old and new dishes arrive unadorned, and staff ask your preferred heat level before serving. The basil noodles came topped with a perfectly fried duck egg with a runny yolk and crispy whites. The noodles were thin, silky, and tender without turning mushy. The seasoning hit exactly as ordered—authentically spicy. The fresh vegetables—bean sprouts and holy basil—served alongside add nice texture and flavor.
Thong Samit now operates 10 branches. Check their Facebook page, Siameseboatnoodles, for locations.
We finished with lychee pudding, a new item from their partner brand I-Berry. The pudding is lightly sweet with a silky, bouncy texture, and the lychees are plump, sweet, and seedless. Another meal well spent, and the traffic had cleared perfectly as we left.
