Pichayamol Oophasinpat, a female badminton player for Thailand's national team, was temporarily banned from competition after a banned substance, furosemide, was detected in her system, disqualifying her from the 2026 Asian Games. She retains the right to appeal through a B-sample retest. Sports Minister Surasak Puncharoenvrakul announced today that the B-sample has been submitted for testing, with results expected within two days on September 26, 2026. If the B-sample confirms the violation, Pichayamol and the Badminton Association of Thailand must explain the cause and whether she knowingly used a prohibited substance or was unaware—a distinction that could reduce the severity of any penalty. The minister said Pichayamol's mental state is currently suffering because she was fully committed to competing. However, the Sports Authority of Thailand and the Thai Olympic Committee cannot become directly involved in the doping case to avoid appearing to condone it, though the government is willing to provide full support in other matters.
