Vinicius Apologizes After Brazil's World Cup Disappointment
Brazil's Vinicius Junior apologized after the five-time World Cup champions were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Norway, extending their drought to six tournaments without a semi-final appearance since 2002.
Vinicius Junior, Brazil's forward, apologized to fans via Instagram and pledged to keep fighting after the team's disappointing World Cup 2026 performance, as they were eliminated in the Round of 16. Brazil crashed out after losing to Norway 2-1, marking the five-time world champions' sixth consecutive failure to reach the World Cup semi-finals since their last title in 2002. In part of his post, Vinicius wrote: "Staying silent doesn't feel right, but I needed 2-3 days to process this. Wearing the national team jersey is the greatest pride of my life, and being knocked out in the Round of 16 is a feeling hard to describe. I know how much I prepared and how committed I was. The disappointment is overwhelming. We had a strong enough team that should have done better, but we didn't. I apologize, and I will fight for our dream to return to the top of the world once again."
