Woman, 67, Fights Off Attempted Sexual Assault
A 67-year-old woman in Buriram Province fought off an attempted sexual assault by a village resident on September 16, forcing her attacker to flee after she injured him during the struggle.
September 18 — Village leaders from Muang District, Buriram Province, have brought a 67-year-old woman, identified as Mrs. A, to file a complaint with investigators at Muang Buriram Police Station. They are seeking prosecution of a village resident named Piao for breaking into her home and attempting sexual assault.
Mrs. A recounted that the incident occurred on September 16 at approximately 10:00 a.m. while she was alone at home, as other villagers were attending a funeral rite at the local temple. While sitting in front of her house, Piao approached and asked if anyone was home. When she said no, he grabbed her arm and dragged her toward the rear kitchen area. Despite her protests, he forced her to the ground and attempted to remove her clothing. Unable to overpower him through resistance, she gathered all her strength and used her legs to squeeze his genitals until he cried out, jumped up, and fled the scene.
The village headman said that after learning of the assault, residents searched for Piao but did not locate him. Fearing he might return and cause further harm, they decided to file a formal complaint with Muang Buriram Police to pursue legal action. The victim remains frightened and shaken by the incident.
