Woman Denies All Charges in Temple Land Dispute
A woman and eight others denied charges in a temple land dispute at Khon Kaen Police Station, claiming heirs seek investigation into the abbot's background and questioning how deceased individuals could sign recent land documents.
At 2:30 p.m. on September 18, Ms. Chommani Noi Chan (Aunt Dah) and eight others, including Buakai Sarasamut (Aunt Buakai), appeared at Muang Khon Kaen Police Station in response to a summons. They gave statements, provided fingerprints, and were released, as this was a voluntary appearance rather than an arrest.
Ms. Chommani denied all police allegations, explaining that heirs want investigation into the temple abbot's background, the temple's legal status, and land transaction procedures. She noted that heirs never participated in fact-finding meetings despite claiming ownership status. She stated the dispute has two sides with competing claims, but expressed confidence that everything will be proven soon.
She highlighted discrepancies, including how land title documents listed a deceased man (who died in 1994) as making a promise on September 16, 2569. She questioned how citizens can trust the land system if titles cannot confirm ownership. Aunt Buakai had filed an objection with the land office seven to eight days earlier.
Ms. Chommani asserted that true gold need not fear fire, referring to their confidence in their position. Aunt Buakai said she was not discouraged and wanted to pursue the truth. Both parties have lodged complaints with relevant agencies. After the interview, Aunt Dah joked that Aunt Buakai was hungry and her blood pressure had risen before making a heart gesture to cameras and leaving Muang Khon Kaen Police Station in good spirits.
Acording to the station commander, nine suspects were summoned to receive charges. Eight faced charges under Criminal Code Articles 210, 362, 363, 365(2), and 392. Aunt Buakai faced charges under Articles 137 and 267, while Ms. Chommani and two others faced Article 112 charges. They are scheduled to meet prosecutors on October 22.
