As of August 8, 2025, verification and appeal figures continue to rise as local agencies and accessible service channels improve uptake. Of 3.1 million newly eligible beneficiaries, 2.3 million (73%) have completed verification, leaving 830,000 (27%) still pending, down from 980,000 (31%) previously. The government is urging new beneficiaries to complete verification quickly to activate benefits from October 1, 2025.

The Finance Ministry is accepting verifications until January 12, 2026. The five provinces with the most unverified citizens are Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ubon Ratchathani, Buriram, and Khon Kaen, where authorities have been instructed to intensify outreach.

For rights reviews, 4.2 million applications have been filed, but approximately 5 million people have yet to submit. The government is calling for submissions by August 31, 2025. Provinces with the highest review submission rates include Lampang (60%), Narathiwat (59%), Pattani (58%), Yala (54%), and Phrae (53%).

The government is offering multiple service channels: the government application, the Pao Tang app, websites of five state banks, and 878 One Stop Service (OSS) centers at district offices nationwide. Provincial governors, district officials, local government organizations, village headmen, and elders are tasked with assisting elderly, disabled, and vulnerable groups unable to use online services.

Two armed men on a motorcycle carried out a drive-by shooting that killed an 18-year-old and injured two of his companions. Officers from Khuan Khun Police Station responded at 3 a.m. on August 9 to a report of a fatal shooting on Phi Thong-Thalenoi Road in Phatthalung's Khuan Khun district. At the scene, police found blood traces and a motorcycle with Songkhla license plates overturned on the road. Three victims were transported to Khuan Khun Hospital, but the 18-year-old victim, identified as Mr. A (alias), died en route with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head.

Two other victims were also injured: 17-year-old Mr. B (alias), shot once in the right arm, and 18-year-old Mr. C (alias). Police found a replica handgun on the victim's body during examination at the hospital.

Initial investigation revealed that before the attack, the victims were riding a motorcycle when two suspects on another motorcycle pulled alongside and opened fire five to six times. Security camera footage captured two motorcycles riding side by side before multiple gunshots rang out, resulting in the injuries and death.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Nathapol Bunsanit, the station commander, stated that officers have already questioned both injured survivors and are investigating the motive behind the shooting. Investigators have not yet determined the type of firearm used, though they suspect it was a short-barreled handgun. Police are accelerating efforts to collect additional security camera footage and evidence to identify and prosecute the suspects.

8 Aug Khaosod

The Meteorological Department has identified 37 provinces facing strong monsoon conditions with heavy rainfall covering 60 percent of affected areas, including Bangkok and its vicinity. Forecasts for the next 24 hours predict continuing heavy rain across the northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions caused by a monsoon trough moving over upper northern Thailand and northern Laos, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon sweeping across the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Public warnings have been issued regarding hazards from heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated precipitation, which may trigger flash flooding and forest runoff, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones.

Waves in the northern Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are forecast at 2–3 meters, with thunderstorm areas experiencing waves exceeding 3 meters. Mariners are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid thunderstorm zones, while small vessels in the northern Andaman Sea and upper Gulf should remain in port.

Typhoon Dolphin, currently over the East China Sea, is expected to make landfall in Zhejiang Province, China on August 9–10 and will not enter Thai territory. Travelers to that region should check weather conditions before departure.

Police Destroy 21 Illegal Firearms After Case Concluded
8 Aug Khaosod

Bang Sri Muang Police Station has destroyed 21 illegal firearms following the completion of criminal proceedings and a court confiscation order. The weapons included homemade Thai firearms and various calibers—9mm, .32mm, .38mm, and .22mm. Before destruction, a police committee verified each firearm's serial number and details against the confiscation list. The guns were then dismantled using cutting equipment, and the remains were buried according to standard procedures to prevent reuse in future crimes.

On August 8, 2026, Colonel Phumisat Tangwitchdecha, commander of Bang Sri Muang Police Station, announced the action and warned teenagers, students, and young people against possessing illegal firearms. He noted that recent arrests at the station revealed many weapons were being bought and sold online. Police cautioned the public not to be deceived into purchasing illegal arms, as possession carries criminal penalties under firearms laws and may lead to serious violence. Unauthorized possession or carrying of firearms is a criminal offense with severe legal consequences.

Drug Smugglers Flee Police, Crash Into Garbage Truck
8 Aug Khaosod

On August 8, 2025, Si Sa Ket Province Governor Anurath Thammapratchajit ordered Unit 238 Lam Duan Protection Command to conduct a drug suppression operation in the region. Officers had been tracking a Honda sedan with Chon Buri license plates traveling from Khanthararaksa District toward Si Sa Ket city, suspected of involvement in transporting narcotics from neighboring provinces for distribution locally.

When officers attempted to intercept and arrest the vehicle, the driver accelerated, ran a red light at Soonheng intersection in Si Sa Ket's central district, and collided with a municipal garbage truck. The sedan was severely damaged and unable to continue. Three men immediately jumped out and scattered in different directions, prompting officers to launch an urgent pursuit. A search of the vehicle uncovered 72,000 methamphetamine pills hidden inside.

Authorities believe some suspects may have been injured in the crash and are likely hiding in the area. Police are conducting an intensive manhunt while expanding the investigation to identify all network members, accomplices, and those involved in the trafficking operation in order to trace the source and dismantle the entire organization before proceeding with legal action.

Thailand Beats Myanmar 2-0, Advances to Cup Semifinals

Thailand beat Myanmar 2-0 on penalties in the 2026 AFF Cup Group B match, advancing to the semi-finals with four consecutive clean sheets under coach Anthony Hudson.

Thailand Beats Myanmar 2-0, Advances to Cup Semifinals
8 Aug Khaosod

Thailand's national football team defeated Myanmar 2-0 on penalties from Worrachit Kaniitsareebaumphen and Jehhanafi Mama, securing Group B victory and advancing to the semi-finals of the 2026 AFF Cup.

Head coach Anthony Hudson praised the team's effort, saying "First, I want to thank the fans for their support throughout this period. I'm satisfied with the results—we managed to keep four clean sheets and advance to the semi-finals. This match we didn't use any players suspended on yellow cards. Everyone deserves credit for giving their best effort." Hudson explained his choice of penalty takers: "We had some light training yesterday, and I selected Worrachit for the first penalty. For the second, I couldn't overlook Jehhanafi because he performed well in finishing drills and penalty practice. Both deserve credit for their bravery in taking responsibility."

Hudson added, "To be honest, I'm proud of everyone. Their form has been good and we achieved the results we targeted, though many were tired. That's why I tried to maintain intensity and pressure the opposition. Our immediate focus is player recovery—one day rest, then Monday we plan for the Singapore match. I'll decide the primary penalty taker weekly; everyone performed excellently, whether starters or substitutes. Right now, the priority is team preparation and tactical planning. We want to improve fitness and elevate our play further. The decision on the primary penalty taker will come later."

On the tournament philosophy, Hudson explained: "We divided the campaign into three phases: first, to win matches and qualify for the Asian Cup rounds; second, considering most players were in club leagues four weeks prior, we had to adjust tactically without being harsh on them; and now we're building plans while players are still in pre-season. Today we rested key yellow-carded players, and some lacked energy and activity, especially in the first half. We had good chances but some players tired badly in the second half, so we adjusted style and made substitutions with responsive players, which proved quite satisfactory."

Jehhanafi Mama, named Player of the Match, said he was satisfied with scoring but acknowledged missed opportunities. "I didn't feel much pressure on the penalty. I was confident because my family was watching—I wanted to make my parents proud and score for Thailand."

Thailand's next match in the 2026 AFF Cup semi-final will be against Singapore (world ranking 148) at Jalan Besar Stadium on August 15, 2025, with live broadcast on TrueVisions Now.
