Thailand Launches Data ConneX Platform With Eight Medical Schools

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yotchanan Wungsawat has convened discussions on collaborative approaches among medical faculties under the Data ConneX project to leverage clinical data for advancing medical research and healthcare development in Thailand. The initiative brings together university presidents from six institutions, deans of medical faculties from eight schools, officials from ClinicerCo Ltd, data governance committees, and project teams including several government advisers and health sector representatives.

Data ConneX is a platform designed to consolidate and integrate data from eight medical schools into a unified standard format while maintaining strict data governance and security protocols. The project delivers three major outcomes: analysis of health trends and disease patterns to study medications and treatments; a research participant database to assess eligible patient numbers and support clinical research planning; and real-world health data analysis to enhance research efficiency and multi-institutional data connectivity.

Yotchanan said the Data ConneX findings will serve as a foundation for analyzing Thailand's competitive capacity and will support national policy recommendations and the establishment of a clinical research and testing system. The initiative will proceed through partnerships with the private sector and startups, with pilot launches at major hospitals before expanding to broader networks. Future plans include coordinating with the Ministry of Public Health to align medical schools and public health organizations under unified protocols, positioning Thailand as a regional clinical research and testing hub to attract investment, generate economic value, and elevate public health through medical innovation and traditional medicine research.
