Defense Ministry Clarifies Boom Panadda's Reserve Status Amid Fraud Warrant
The Ministry of Defense has clarified that Boom Panadda, a celebrity and foundation president with an arrest warrant for fraud, remains a reserve force member but has not been promoted to acting lieutenant colonel because he has not completed mandatory training. Officials say the fraud case is a personal matter that does not disgrace the military, and his reserve status is equivalent to that of other civilians with specialized skills who have enlisted but not yet finished commissioning requirements.
On November 6, 2026, a Ministry of Defense source explained the reserve status of Boom Panadda Wongphudee, president of a charitable foundation, who faces an arrest warrant for fraud. The ministry stated that being a reservist is similar to having completed ROTC or being discharged from active service; reservists can be called up under the law, but if not called up they are ordinary civilians. Therefore, any personal offenses fall under civilian jurisdiction, just as with other acting sub-lieutenants who have legal cases, such as Nuch Muean-ngan.
Regarding the reported promotion to acting lieutenant colonel, the process is still underway because Boom Panadda has not yet met all qualifications. As a reservist, he must undergo training to receive a commission, and that process has not been completed. Additional steps also remain.
"Boom Panadda's status is currently that of a regular reservist; he has not been promoted, though he is entitled to the acting rank of lieutenant colonel. However, if he is charged, the matter will be considered appropriately because, under regulations, his actions do not bring discredit to the army — for example, he has not used his reserve status to claim authority. The issue stems from a personal family dispute. At present, he is not a fully qualified reservist because he has not completed training and cannot yet be appointed."
The source confirmed that Boom Panadda remains a reservist because the ministry previously opened recruitment for civilians with specialized expertise. He applied, passed the selection process, and was enlisted. To receive a rank, he must complete the training prescribed by regulations; if he does not pass, he cannot be commissioned and will remain in his current status, unable to wear a uniform. Boom Panadda is described as only a partial reservist, not yet fully qualified.
