Drug-Crazed Motorcyclist Kills Security Guard on M6 Motorway
A security guard died during a confrontation with a drug-intoxicated motorcyclist on the M6 motorway in Saraburi province on July 5; police suspect heart failure, though a second autopsy was ordered to confirm the cause.
On July 5, 2026, Nong Kaew police received a report of an assault resulting in death on the M6 motorway in Bua Loi subdistrict, Nong Kaew district, Saraburi province. Officers and rescue volunteers found one deceased: Somphalang Dannarong, 49, a security guard from Nakhon Ratchasima, lying in grass on the roadside with no visible wounds. Police suspect he died of heart failure during the confrontation.
At the scene, authorities recovered a homemade .38 revolver with one spent shell casing, a live round, four additional bullets, and a knife—believed to belong to the suspect. Two motorcycles were parked nearby.
A witness, security officer Thamnoon Prasaptong, explained that the suspect was riding a motorcycle illegally on the expressway. When confronted and warned, the man fled. The deceased officer and a colleague pursued him separately, and they eventually clashed with the suspect from different directions.
The suspect escaped under an overpass before residents and rescue workers apprehended him. He displayed signs of drug intoxication, acting erratically and shouting incoherently. He was transported to Saraburi Hospital with a stab wound to the left rib cage with protruding intestines and a gunshot wound to the back. The suspect is identified as Theerchay Wisetsri, 42, from Khon Kaen province.
Investigation revealed the suspect had a prior murder conviction in 2011. Police believe the stab wound resulted from their struggle, as the security guard was unarmed. A hospital examination found no injuries on the deceased guard's body, supporting the heart failure theory. A second autopsy was ordered at Saraburi Hospital to determine the actual cause of death.
